About 2,101mhz.

2,114mhz was a tad unstable today. Perhaps on a cold morning I would manage a pass at that

Man, I'm hoping that my CPU is playing a big role in my scores as my overclocked GTX 1080 SLI is right around 5% of your GTX 1080 Ti SLI scores (1080p Extreme and 4k Optimized).  I have two 1080 Ti cards and waterblocks arriving Monday and was hoping for a big jump in Superposition.

not really CPU bound unfortunately . Super position is not well coded. its honestly a very bad engine. see attached for my usage during a 1080p extreme run - GPU's are about 94-100% utilized and CPU is 15-20% utilized.

Lol, to me it sounds like a very well coded engine. Multi gpu scaling is also exellent. How is a non cpu bound graphics engine badly coded in your mind?

This engine scales on cores like it was written in 2008 - its using 1-3 CPU threads at best... it uses DX11, and according to @done12many2 a 5% performance gain between 1080 SLI vs 1080ti SLI? not a single one of my three year old CPU's threads are over 53% utilization and the whole CPU is at 15%.

If its not the GPU holding it back, and its not the CPU holding it back i'm eager to hear why such a well coded engine isn't spitting out more frames proportionate to the compute power its utilizing?

72 fps on SLI 980s and 138 fps on SLI 1080tis (results on this page) does sound about right mind you so maybe done12many2 has just cooked up the math for his 5% performance gap claim?

The lack of DX12 and poor thread utilization alarm me the most.

I definitely don't like cooking so that ain't it.  :D

@done12many2: 1080p Extreme: 11631, 4k Optimized: 15523, 8k Optimized: 6904  (1080 SLI w/ 7700k @ 5.4GHz)

@Cheddle: 1080p Extreme: 12272, 4k Optimized: 16273, 8k Optimized: 8958  (1080 Ti SLI w/ 5820k @ 4.75 GHz)

@LegionOfOne1080p Extreme: 11640, 4k Optimized: 18465, 8k Optimized: 8355 (1080 Ti SLI w/ 6850k @ unknown)

Difference between @done12many2 and @Cheddle:  1080p Extreme: 5.2%, 4k Optimized: 4.6%, 8k Optimized: 23%

Difference between @done12many2 and @LegionOfOne:  1080p Extreme: 0.1%, 4k Optimized: 16%, 8k Optimized: 17.4%

While I was able to run my 1080 clocks slightly higher then those of @Cheddle's 1080 Ti clocks, I don't think that a 1080 should be within 5.2% or 0.1% of a 1080 Ti in a "well optimized" 1080p Extreme run.  I can't help but think that CPU performance is still affecting the 1080p Extreme benchmark a bit.

I'm known for "wasting" money and even I couldn't justify that.

If the difference between the two is big enough, I'll switch to the Titan Xp cards when I upgrade to x299.

Hmm, I see what you mean. I guess this is more noticeable at the highest end multi gpu setups. Using only DX11 still is indeed a bit disappointing - we can only hope for a DX12 update...

What perplexes me a bit, is that none of those cpu cores are even close to maxed out (though this might be due to thread being tossed from core to core), while gpu use is at 95-100% (basically fully utilized).

Maybe part of it might be that there are no official sli/cf drivers/support (as far as i know)? I read on reddit that some of the new rendering tech they use might not work well on multi gpu setups out of the box. They plan to add proper sli/cf support in the future though.

I'm expecting to see more than a 5% gain in the 1080p Extreme test when I switch from the 1080s to 1080 Tis.  If so, and if I gain the expected increase, I can't help but think that somehow, platform/CPU is somehow a limitation.

x99 is still a badass platform, but it has been around since 2015.  Going from Skylake architecture will not only improve IPC, but overclocking headroom, which is already fantastic.

TBH, I think that all X299 CPUs will be able to overclock to 5GHz. Imagine 12 cores at 5GHz! :D

Some people wouldn't spend hundreds/thousands on a huge phase change setup.

If you're looking for an insane amount of single AND multi-threaded performance, Skylake-X will more then likely deliver it.  Sure it will cost more, but this is true with most things in life.  You have to pay to have the best.

Hey serious question.  I was looking through 3DMark's Hall of Fame and noticed that there aren't any Ryzen chips showing up?  What's holding them back in those benchmarks?
