A used thinkpad and a $1000 budget for a sff matx build?

What do you think of those ideas?

you could grab a full windows laptop for 350$ that is good and then a 1450$ build

That looks pretty nice, i7 and a decent resolution. Used, yes, but thinkpads are not that difficult to repair and upgrade (right?) .

Look, my biggest problem aside from the price to performance and lack of upgrade-ability with gaming laptops is where are you going to charge it? They don't have amazing battery life.

Go sff matx or mitx for your build. And, everything can get water spilled on it and get broken. Just a thought, put a plastic tarp over your desktop to prevent water damage.

That is true about the time. Poor time management will lead to your demise. However, what about a sleeper pc? Looks like any other pc, performs like a beast.

it;s a metal brick that needs a gpu inside. gpu is sold separately so that is extra cost

You can build/buy mitx PCs which are almost as small as a console, and then use a light ultrabook to bring to class.

Do not buy a large gaming/video editing laptop to carry around every day.

You want something like an XPS13 or similarly sized laptop.
