A separate hard disk/SSD solely for OS/Games?

RealGamer

My pc already had a 240GB SSD and a 2TB 5200RPM HDD, i am planning on getting an extra 480GB SSD and this is how I am gonna use them:

240GB SSD for OS and Softwares

480GB SSD for Games

2TB HDD for Storage

Do you guys have a separate drive for Games or OS?

Or do you guys just get one SSD with a massive storage and install everything on it?

Games today are really taking up too much space.

it should really be your games in your HDD, since it is 2TB. I'd rather keep important documents and pictures in an SSD since more likely to live longer. that 240 GB as OS/software seems good.

I have an 850 pro as my c - OS and Games

2TB seagate barracuda as my d - for document storage

2TB seagate barracuda as my e - only for games.

depending on the size of your currently library, and how quickly you got to said size, may be better to just get one giant ssd or an hdd solely for games.

hes right but it doesnt work like that for most people, personally putting games on an sdd to save 3 seconds of loading isnt worth the 100 dollar cost just to fill up

the storage after 4 triple A title downloads

WD Black 3TB and an SSD.

Depends on the build.

At least we have the space for them. Back in Windows 95 days, I had space for about three games and was forced to install and delete them one at a time.

I don't know about that one. You could buy a 3TB HDD and a 500GB SSD for the cost of a 1TB SSD.

I meant instead of a small SSD and a large SSD.

Oh. OP already has the 240GB, so yes larger would be better.

I have a 1TB SSD for OS/Storage and a 500GB SSD for games. Its a nice system, just when installing a new game launcher (Steam, UPlay, Origin, etc.) you have to set the "Game" drive as the default directory.

will use as boot drive and then use my 240 gb for most game and video and stufe I look at day to day and use a 500 gb hard drive for old stuf

just be patient i guess. for those 2 minutes of loading time, just take a bathroom break or eat. My friend eats while waiting for loading screens lmao

Well,it's almost the same or even worst now. 60GB for Dishonored 2 and 50GB for AC:Syndicate had already taken up 20% of space for a 500GB storage drive

Hi there :)

My two cents on this:

Gaming doesn't really rely on the storage's performance for anything but the loading times. In open world and MMO games you may see smoother or faster loading of the surrounding textures but that won't affect their quality nor the overall FPS. I would say that a standard HDD should do the job for gaming.

I would use a SSD for the OS, some demanding applications such as rendering or editing programs and some everyday applications such as internet browsers, office applications etc.

Let me know if you need more info :)
