Samsung UN65J6200 60" or Sony XBR-X700D 55" ?

dante`afk

I'm looking for a new TV to go along with the my PS4 pro.

We're sitting about 13ft away from the TV. I also rather prefer 1080p 60fps than 4k and 30fps. But we'd use Netflix 4k. Apart from that there is not much 4k content out there.

The Sony is supposed to have the better picture quality...some say, but others say the HDR is bad and lacks the full range of gamut.

Does 1080p content look better or worse on a 4k TV than on a 1080p TV?

I was reading a lot the last weeks and everyone is talking about the viewing distances, that up to a certain distance I would not be able to notice a difference to 4k from 1080p.

See here: https://carltonbale.com/does-4k-resolution-matter/ and here: http://referencehometheater.com/2013/commentary/4k-calculator/

I cannot decide, which would you take?

I saw that, the black uniformity though is terrible on the Sony apparently.

Then again comparing amazon reviews, the sony has worse than the samsung.

I'd argue that depends on your viewing conditions and content. People complain about IPS glow but I only notice it if I'm in a dark room and the content is dark. Which doesn't really happen all much.

Hmm yes.

However, will 55" 4k at 13ft not be too small maybe?

So I went to bestbuy to check them out. the x700 was amazing in picture quality compared to the 6200. I also did not like the smart menu on the samsung, however the size was good on that.

So I needed a 60" with that amazing picture quality. He showed me the KS8000 60" amazing, however $1200. I wanted to buy that and on the way to the cashier I saw the LG 60uh6035, for just 700, same size.

I thought what's the difference? Both are HDR10, however the black uniformity seems to be better on the Samsung. They did not have the LG on display, but 500$ less was the deal for me. However for the same price I'd get the Samsung anytime. Difficult to tell since I could not see both side by side.

So, either the 6200 for 650$ or the LG for 700$. A bit of a no brainer, even though if I'm not able to notice a difference in 13ft, the colors should be much better due to HDR, right?

Did not fit in the car, will have it delivered on Wednesday.
