Ok so i already have a small MC server on my PC, for a few ppl, but i wish to make a dedicated PC for the server that would be able to host ~100 ppl at a time.

From what i understand, MC runs off of one core so u need a good single-threaded CPU? I mean it's strange that it can run so many ppl off of only one core, but idk, magic.

Anyway, so what CPU would be good for this, kinda don't want to blow 1000$ or anything into the server, so a budget good CPU will do.

if a powerful core is what you want, just get a skylake, an i5 6600k is a good choice.

i mean, from what i know MC only uses 1 core so technically a pentium dual core would be enough.

Honestly was thinking of the G3258 since it's an unlocked pentium dual core. Or are there any more variables at play? Like the L3 cache etc.?

A G3258 should be perfectly capable.

pentium for CPU, get 8GB RAM for that many people

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

what you need to do is get a box in a datacenter, you dont want anything even close to that on your home network.

about 90% of the game code runs in a single thread, basicly the only thing in minecraft that is not in that thread is the network stack.

how so? I mean i have 300/50 and no data cap, unless MC uses a shitton of data.

well... a few things:

- 50 up will start to hurt, quickly.

- your ISP has an EULA, if they find out you're hosting stuff for 100 people they'll either shut you down, or make you pay for a professional plan

- cyber attacks of any variety, if someone gets pissed and DDoSes a datacenter you wont notice, if someone gets pissed and DDoSes your home connection, it'll most likely take the entire neighborhood down. i also dont need to explain you the security risks against higher intelligence threats.

- reliability
