argument over H vs Z rated MB, tell me please who is right

ok so in a different thread a fellow LLT member is stating that a Z rated MB are not meant for OC but rather to enable Xfire. while i claim that a Z rated MB is built and designed for OC in mind and that you can run sli/Xfire on any chipset as long as the MB is designed by the Manufacturer to use more then 1 video card.

i simply want someone, especially staff to clear up the matter so that wrong info isnt being told to other members, and this way if it turns out im the one in the wrong, then i know better and i learn something

I don't really think you had to make a whole thread to prove the point. You could have tagged a few key members and had them reply in thread, where the person who posted what you didn't agree with would actually see it.

Welcome to the internet. People will always have differing opinions, or be flat out wrong. Correct them and move on, don't dwell on it.

Z170 was intended to allow OC for K series CPUs

non standard use:

  • BIOS moded Z170 boards can be used to BLK OC non K CPUs
  • some H series mobos with external BLK clock generator can OC non K CPUs, from AsRock

because of licensing fees, mobo manufacturers chose to enable SLI only on Z170 and C236 chipsets - SLI requires a minimum of 8 lanes per card

CFX can be run on any mobo with multiple physical PCIe 16x slots or with open ended PCIe 4x slots - CFX requires a minimum of 4 lanes per card
