How do I shut my Ethernet switch up?

I have a Netgear FSM750S Ethernet Switch which I got cheap second hand, the only problem is that the fan which it came with it, a KD1208PTB2, is loud as anything and so keeps me awake when it's on and so is really annoying, in order to fix this problem I bough a coolink SWiF2-800 thinking it would work and quite the switch down. The problem is that the new fan works, in every situation, I've tested it in except for when I plug it into the 3 pin header of the switch, to use it there, why is this and is there a way to fix this, preferably without needing to buy another fan???

there's different types? And there's nothing on the PCB round the header apart from J1, so unless you can tell from that no idea.

You can control them with a 4 pin connector, I believe but not with a 3 (unless I'm wrong there) and the problem with the hammer is I need it to work after I hit it, and I doubt it would

That's incorrect. 4 pin headers = PWM control. 3 pin headers = voltage control. You can control either type.

 

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. Have you replaced the fan? And does it run at full speed all the time? That's my best guess.

the problem is now is the new fan  I'm trying to replace it with just doesn't seam want to play ball and work in the first place, by that I mean it doesn't spin or anything while in the switch, but does when I connect to another power source from other places and I don't know why, or how to fix it. Meaning that zanthros's method is not preferable (as I'll need to buy  a resistor) but I might do it on the old fan if the new one does work.

fan connectors in switches are notorious for using a different pinout from standard PC connectors.

are the color codes of the wires on the new fan the same as the old as far as placement in the plug?

do you know what the pinout is for this switch or will I just need to learn by trial and error

right the old fan wire layout is Red, Yellow, Black, and the new one is Black, Red, Yellow, so is there any way to fix this problem without using 3 paper clips, which are likely to accidently touch each other every so often?

First, take a picture of the connector so you have something to reference in the future if you want to use this fan on a normal system. Then, you can push the metal clips out of the connector housing by applying pressure to the little locking tabs accessible from the side of the connector - just push those tabs down so they clear the plastic, and that single wire can be removed from the connector. Repeat with the other two. To reinsert, just push them in and the lock should engage, but you may have to rotate the metal clip to align the lock with the slot.

The plastic holder or the plug has locking tabs on each wire on the plug. You can use a saftey pin or a needle to slightly bend the tab up, press down lightly on the tab on the metal part that has a tab as well and then pull lightly on the wire to remove it from the plastic plug. Be careful not to break either tab as it will cause the wire not to lock into the plug an it will easily slide out. I've done this before and it will work. Just inspect the plug closely to see the tabs that I am talking about.

The pinouts are the same but its the type of fan that matters. Is it 2 pin, 3 pin, 4 pin, 5 pin, 7 pin? is it 5V or 12V?

 

Its a chore to look for the same type of fan to replace that is quiet. If its a 30mm deep fan dont hope for silence. You can see my attempts of silencing a CCR router which uses 30mm deep fans which i silenced with 20mm deep fans and some tape to improve airflow.

I have 8 switches and a router 5 feet from me that have 3 pin fans, but a different pinout from PC fans. Some brands decide to be different and some brands choose to just save a few cents on using standard hardware. OP has already given us the pinout of the two fans he is comparing, and they were different.

Right I've rewired the fan and set it all up, it's a hell of a lot quitter now, and I don't think I did it the way I was meant to, by using a screw driver, but it worked, after quite a bit of fiddling, and anger and god knows what time in the morning. So thanks for the help everyone.
