First off, I'm not an experienced PC builder. This is my one and only build. I may be worth mentioning that all components are coming from an Asus RoG Tytan computer. (I switched case in hope of reducing the noise level)

The specs are the following:

  • NZXT H440 Razer Edition
  • Intel i7 3770K cooled with an AIO liquid cooler from asetek and overclocked to 4.2 GHz (from original 3.5)
  • NVIDIA GTX 680
  • Creative SoundBlaster Z Sound Card
  • 256GB Samsung SSD
  • 1TB Seagate HDD
  • 3TB WD Red HDD

The reason why I'm posting this here is, that even after switching case, my build is still making too much noise. It's very noticeable when turned on and even disturbs me from working sometimes.

I have 5 fans installed in the case: the three pre-installed fans in the front of the case, and one on the top. All of those are sucking air in. There is also one fan blowing out air through the radiator of the asetek cooler, which also is the CPU fan.

Can anybody give me tips on how to decrease the noise level of my build without risking the temperatures to go up from my usual 40-60°C (under load)?

(also don't bother with the red led, it's coming from my sound card and I didn't have the time to remove it yet)

What kind of fan control are you using (if any)? If you are not, use some!

Main Rig: R9 5950X @ PBO, RTX 3090, 64 GB DDR4 3666, InWin 101, Full Hardline Watercooling

Server: R7 1700X @ 4.0 GHz, GTX 1080 Ti, 32GB DDR4 3000, Cooler Master NR200P, Full Soft Watercooling

LAN Rig: R5 3600X @ PBO, RTX 2070, 32 GB DDR4 3200, Dan Case A4-SFV V4, 120mm AIO for the CPU

HTPC: i7-7700K @ 4.6 GHz, GTX 1050 Ti, 16 GB DDR4 3200, AliExpress K39, IS-47K Cooler

Router: R3 2200G @ stock, 4GB DDR4 2400, what are cases, stock cooler

I don't have a problem...

Any reason your sound card is in the primary slot and your GPU is in the secondary? :D

Is it the GPU or the CPU cooler being too loud? I suspect it's your 680 as looks like it's being cooled by a reference cooler which is probably why your PC is so loud. Reference coolers=junk (except AMD's wraith which is about as good as a 212 evo).

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

It's the 680. You could buy fans that are known to be quiet like Noctua or Silent Wings from Be quiet for the radiator and case fans. Use a fan controller like MSI afterburner to set a custom fan curve.

i5-6600k (4.6) | Dark Rock 3 | MSI GAMING X 1060 6GB | 8GB DDR4 | 120GB SSD & 1TB HDD | Crystal 460x

your fans are probably running at 100% all the time then if you only connected the PSU. do you have the hub connected to your motherboard in any way?

I doubt it's my GPU, because I can hear it when I'm gaming or rendering something, but not when my computer's idle.

Custom fan and pump profiles is really all I can suggest, I have a 240mm radiator, and I have my fans running around 800-1000 rpm idle and 1400-1600rpm while gaming and my pump is around the same, and my gpu's fans are completely off becuz maxwell+. And my CPU temps are 28c idle and 44c with aida64 and fur mark running. (Gpu on air not blower style @ 1670Mhz) still doesn't get above 60c.

then your fans are just running at max speed... connect as many as you can to the motherboard so you can controll them, also why is the GPU in the second slot?...

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

No I don't think so, at least I didn't connect it back then. I'll quickly check and post a picture of the hub

i have my fans running at around 350rpm and its super silent. theres not much you can do when the temperature goes up and the fans go to max speed except buy Noctua fans, but even they generate noise at max speed. You prob have too many fans on intake than you need

Have you identified which components are too loud?

Yes, it's the fans altogether. I hear the CPU fan when CPU's under heavy load, and I hear my GPU when gaming or rendering. But the rest I hear all the time. So I guess it's the fans.

Does stopping the fans with your hands stop the noise?

Yeah. But don't misunderstand, it's not like there's some abnormal noise - it's just the normal fan-blowing-noise, but it's too loud in comparison to "normal computers". I think it has to do with my lacking fan control. It would make sense that they spin at 100% all the time. How do I control them?

What fans do you have and what header is each fan powered from?

Okay so I checked: FAN1 is coming directly from the PSU, the rest are the fans powered by it.

The one going upwards is the one on the top, the rest are the three fans in the front. The fans are just the standard included ones (FNv2 case fans)

As stated, FAN1 is the power supply coming directly from my PSU.

This seems to be the case... How can I control my fans? Should I connect the "CPU Fan" connector to my Fan hub?

yes. that way it should be a lot quieter already. then if it still seems too loud you could always set the fan curve in your BIOS.

That's just a powered hub and will run any fans connected to it at 100%.

You should connect your fans to something that can actually control fan speeds like your motherboard.

What motherboard do you have?
