So Microsoft unveiled the Surface Studio. This computer is targeted at the creative market. And it costs 2300 (US) dollars for the base model, but 3000 roughly for a good one.

So yesterday I went to the microsoft store to check it out. (I had no intention in purchasing the product). Now when I saw the specs after the unveiling, I questioned 2 things:

1, Why does it only come with Hybrid drives? Like I would think in a computer for professionals (video editors, and the like) they would want all SSD.

2, If it has a GTX 965m or 980m, which is laptop Hardware, does is also have a laptop CPU.

So on my visit to the microsoft store I came to a couple conclusions. One this computer is a complete rip off for the money. I went into the system settings to look at specs...I found out that it has HQ model CPUs. The model they had out has a i5-5550HQ (If i remember correctly), and I can only assume that the i7 model would have a i7-6700HQ as well. But so basically this entire computer is a rip off. Because just saying that you could get that computer for a fraction of the cost of what Microsoft is pricing it at. Like for 1500 dollars to be more precise.

So complete rip off, especially for the intended audience of the computer.

What I think Microsoft should have done instead of this entire system. Was sell the Zero Gravity Hinge Design as a monitor for another computer. At like 700-800 dollars. That would be a much better idea than making an entire computer for that price. With the added benefit of being able to run what ever hardware people wanted.

You're paying for the screen more than anything.

I bet it's fucking orgasmic.

It's targeted for people who wants something that works out of the box. And the screen alone costs like 90% of the price. Good luck finding a screen like that for even 3000 bucks.

BTW, wrong section. But thanks for participating.

honestly i'd prefer a hybrid drive to a full ssd. i still need a lot of storage, but i don't have the money, so a hybrid drive is a good compromise.

Current Rig: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, Abit IN9-32MAX nForce 680i board, Galaxy GT610 1GB DDR3 gpu, Cooler Master Mystique 632S Full ATX case, 1 2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA and 1x200gb Maxtor SATA drives, 1 LG SATA DVD drive, Windows 10. All currently runs like shit :D

It's not necessarily something I would want as my only PC... But as someone who works in the type of office/studio that typically uses iMacs as "workstations," this seems like a fantastic alternative. It looks expensive on paper, but it does offer some very unique functionality for that price.

Including a 5K IPS monitor? Don't forget to include that in your equivalent-computer price.

You are buying a 4500x3000 ips touch screen with full pen support. That is why you would by one. If you could find me another PC with a similar resolution display and pen support you might be able to convince me that it is over priced but for now it actually sounds like a pretty good deal.

@OP

Hey, Apple anyone? As people like to keep telling us PC folks, Apple makes the best experience and best out of the box so fuck the price. Right?

At least the Surface Studio comes with reasonable specs for a "premium" product at 3000 dollars. I mean take a look at a 15in Macbook Pro Retina.

Laptop Main

(Retired) Zbook 15: i7-6820HQ, M2000M, 32gb, 512gb SSD + 2tb HDD, 4k Dreamcolor

(Retired) Alienware 15 R3: i7-6820HK, GTX1070, 16gb, 512 SSD + 1tb HDD, 1080p

(Retired) T560: i7-6600U, HD520, 16gb, 512gb SSD, 1620p

(Retired) P650RS: i7-6820HK, 1070, 16gb, 512gb + 1tb HDD, 4k Samsung PLS

(Retired) MBP 2012 Retina: i7-3820QM, GT650M, 16gb, 512gb SSD, 1800p

I tried one of these at a Microsoft store. They are worth the price for the screen and production capabilities alone.
