Then that means he has to replace the motherboard

You would have to replace it if you got an 8350. The 860k needs an FM2+ mobo. 8350 uses AM3+

The 880K, IIRC, is just a higher-clocked 860K. Not worth it.

My approach to it is this: it's usually better to have a GPU that's overpowering your CPU than the other way around. If you put a 1060 in there (which I would recommend), yes, your CPU might be holding the GPU back a bit--not 100% sure on that if the 860K is overclocked--but if you upgrade the CPU and mobo in a year, you've got a GPU that will hold up for a couple more years and not be hopelessly obsolete and holding your shiny new i5/Zen/whatever back. If you put something like a 460 or 1050 Ti in there, you're begging for the unenviable situation of having to buy a pricey new GPU along with your new CPU and mobo if you want to milk the most you can out of your setup.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

I would replace my 960 but i don't really use any demanding games.

If i did switch i would get a 1060 or Rx 480.
