What moniter to buy?

denestmor3

Should I buy a 144 Hz monitor or buy a ips display with higher refresh rate?

I am a casual gamer but also watch movies sometimes and I wonder if the 144 Hz is a really a big improvement or if I should go with a IPS display for the colors?

I was thinking about one of these two monitors?

I just upgraded from IPS 60HZ to AHVA 165Hz.

The difference between 60Hz and 165Hz is day and night and I could never go back to gaming at 60Hz.

As long as you get good TN 144Hz I think it is worth it however make sure you are buying good TN panel so check reviews first.

AHVA on mine is still worse than IPS I had before but better than TN I had on my other monitor, however it is quite expensive.

Even on desktop the difference between 60Hz and 144Hz is really noticeable.

As fat as I know that ASUS one you linked has really good TN panel so I would go for it.

If you are just a casual gamer and don't need the refresh rates and want better looking color, get the IPS.

Why do you prefer res over Hz?

Because I have both and from experience:

1. More space

2. Crisper image

3. Better colors as well

For a casual gamer the 144hz will be noticeable, yes, but it's not essential. If you hardware can handle 1440p then go for it.

Go with a compromise. 100/120Hz and IPS. no need to pay premium for 144Hz/165Hz+

I got a 144Hz - Asus PG278Q- TN and it is simply not bright enough imo for the price it costs..

Do you have a suggestion for a monitor like that?

In Norway:

35" IPS 160Hz 1080p - 4ms - Curved - Freesync

http://www.prisjakt.no/product.php?p=3476869

about 7000,-

27" 165Hz TN 1440p - 1ms - G-sync

http://www.prisjakt.no/product.php?p=3958174

6800,-

For a casual gamer the 35" is the easy first pick. Got good framerate. Got a nice bright panel and more screen. Skyrim etc. Probably looks awesome on this.

The only time i would recommend a 27" 165Hz TN is when you are a diehard competitive CSGO player allready on a Team doing clan wars etc. And all that is important for you.

Slight OT: In Norway a G-sync monitor is about 1000,- extra or more. So because of that i would recommend AMD if your getting it as a package. Hell. if you got a GTX 1080 you can just say fuck it to G-sync because your pushing high enough fps for it to be smooth anyway.

Then again as a counter argument. if you can afford a 1080 you can also afford G-sync.

The problem is that I only have room for a 24-25 inch monitor on my desk

And your on a budget? Because if you are a 24" probably needs no more than 1080 and then you can probably get high Hz and IPS

Found one wierd Samsung - 144Hz - 23.5" with IPS -1ms  but it is probably too expensive, but check your prices. Cool little thing.

https://www.komplett.no/product/902998/datautstyr/skjermer/skjermer/samsung-235-led-curved-c24fg70

It seems most 24" is TN if they also got high Hz

hmm. Yeah.. find a reasonable TN it seems. Focus on brightness if you can find info on that some place.

Even fofr casual gamer the smoothness of 144Hz (if your PC can handle it) is superior to better image quality. I would go 144Hz over IPS any day !

Main difference I see is that Dell can run up to 1440p while the Asus is max at 1080p

If your system can run 1440p and you would like to run it on 1440p, then go for it. Otherwise a 1080p is adequate. Plus with the Asus monitor, you have USD 85 to spend on other upgrades and aesthetics!
