My mums laptop is too damn hot

Open it up and clean out any dust, and replace the thermal paste.

Then try this

Damn, so it seems the I5-3317u is hitting around 70°C with an average load of between 25%-35%. Why do laptop makes do that, I know it's only recently that ultra low TDP chip came around but like 70°C under light use is just not acceptable, I'd imagine the thermal paste is not so good after all these years too. I'm tempted to run AIDA 64 on the CPU and iGPU to see how hot she gets but I don't want to make it thermal throttle. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Z930-13N for those playing a long at home.

What a heap of crap, also the suppression capacitor in the charger passes 120 or so volts through too, and I'm earthed so everything I touch it or type, if it touches off my soft inner forearm I get a tingle zap that hurts. Fuck I hate switch mode power supplies sometimes. Lucky the current is the micro amps.

Yours faithfully

It's normal, laptops can hit 90c just fine so long as it is not throttling.

I know it's normal but fuck I hate it, There isn't that much heat in watts coming off it, the back is like *cold, warm, warm, hot* and the amount of heat is tiny, but the actual temperature is high. The PCMR part of me in dying,

I would just clean the laptop and do a clean install if possible in case some of the power management settings were bad.

VERY common, even on grounded input PSUs

Just slap a damn PURE ROCK on it and ziptie the bastard to your shower head for instant warm water.

Can't open, it's a got a fragile magnesium casing and security screws, not work my time.

Yeah I know, I use that technique too to suppress the noise when I make my own SMPS, I love those X and Y class capacitors but the metal grounded case is annoying.

Thats really stupid.

Place a thermometer as far into the cooling vent as possible and measure the airflow temps.

I lost my thermocouple, I'll have to look for it. I'll get back on the exhaust temps

It's a Satellite! Just send it into orbit so it can heat Jupiter or Saturn so that we can occupy it.

That pun... hurt... Plus those are gas giants, good luck with the *crushing* sense of failure when you land deep within it's solidified liquid and gas landscape.

OMFG..... I tried AIDA64's stress test with the CPU and iGPU and it literally shutdown.... I had scheduled an Avast! Boot time scan so it's doing that so I assume it's not broken, but my heart for a minute there. I don't wanna have to loan my mum my ROG G750 while I pay for this laptop to be fixed..... Oh no, during the scan, as I'm writing this, it just shut off again, well there goes my new PC build I was planning.
