i5 6600K+gtx 1060 vs i5 6500+gtx 1070

osuman

Hey guys, I'm planning to build a new pc but can't decide what I should go with.
So far, my budget allows me to get i5 6600K(z170) + gtx 1060 (with around 140CAD for good looking case, plus a budget for quiet cooler).

Or I could get i5 6500(h170) + gtx 1070 (with around 70-80 cad for case, and stock cooler)

Should I go with better cpu or better gpu?

I will mostly only game at 1080p.

i5 1070 my dude... really no point overclocking unless you are benchmarking or doing some video rendering. the frame difference will be minimal for the CPUs but the differnce between 1060 and 1070 is marginal

For 1080p gaming, the 6600k is the best. But if you want to eventually go for the 6500 combo. I would recommend the 6500 combo because of that and that you don't lose that much performance from going down to the 6500 from the 6600k.

Its just that I see some people that still use their 5yo i5-2500k, showing cpu doesn't depreciate much. Vs gtx1070, which might not perform as well in just few years.

Thanks, I feel like you missed a word after eventually, or not?

This is so wrong it hurts. Check the stock 6600K numbers on the old Titan X, a GTX 1070 equivalent card, and compare it to the OC numbers. There's a huge reason to overclock even in gaming.

Holly, that's some pretty significant fps gain. Makes hard to make a decision.

I think I meant 'go for 1440p eventually'. I was watching a video while I was typing that post so I must have not been thinking much

Don't cry man, I just got triggered because I had just seen a post where people claimed the i5 6500 wouldn't bottleneck the GTX 1080. I'm sorry for my lack of anger management.
