Posted November 3, 2016 Don't use Kali Linux in a VM. It's a penetration testing distro that is designed to be live booted, with persistent storage if you need it, off of a USB drive. I second that..I've got mine on a bootable usb and it works.. albeit not that great considering switching between systems is a bit of a hassle.. it's just something you're going to have to deal with! Not something I would recommend. It might work well with a KVM like UnRaid, but that is assuming that Kali plays nicely with the other operating systems. It's a specialized OS, and is "open sourced amongst a small ring of trusted developers" under Offensive Security, or, in the real world, a proprietary OS. Outside of testing Kali in various hypervisors, I actually looked into the documentation to come to the conclusion that the VM images don't actually have much real world application.
