please help my poor lil' 1080

hey guys just a  post here to see if anyone wants to take a crack at it, recently my gtx 1080 has been deciding it would rather clock down to 1600 mhz than sit at its happy 2000, i then found out it only clocks to 2k when it feels like its actually needed, which is a problem as not many games really demand its true power, so it yawns and says i'll half arse it, although i know it shouldn't be like this, is there any way to fix its laziness or at least trick it into giving all it can, thanks everyone

Does it do this during benchmarks and stress tests too? If so it's most likely not stable enough to hold 2000MHZ boost state for long, try sitting it at around 1850 and see if it's still fluctuating as it is.

I think this is the work of GPU boost. You shouldn't be hating this, in fact you should love it. It helps save power when not needed, thus increasing your game budget.

na man its happy at 2k whenever it gets high usage, otherwise it won't rise past 1600, like the only 2 settings or 1.6 or 2 k at the moment haha

Oh okay so it's just based on usage. Yep that'll just be GPU boost, as well as any power management you have running in the driver panel.

Give us an example? How is it ruining your fps? Every nvidia card does this?

dayz can hit as low as 40 fps where as before it refused to drop under 90 usually
