Posted November 1, 2016 I'm eligible for a phone upgrade this coming weekend. My question is: should I purchase the iPhone 7 or the Galaxy S7? I've owned the iPhone 5S and currently have a Galaxy S6, but I really like the new iPhones but I'm not so sure I like Apple's ecosystem. Thoughts? Posted November 1, 2016 What makes you like the iPhone 7? Lack of a headphone jack Kidding. But honestly if you're not sure about the OS, I'd get something else. You can always find a comparable phone hardware wise. I like Android because of it's customization options. I hate seeing apps shat all over my desktop. I'd get a phone that has Android 7.0 tbh. I don't have either, and I highly prefer Android, but I hate the way the S7 looks, which is a HUGE deterrent for me. And I'm also highly against Google phones, I don't know why, but I feel like the Pixel is too good to be true. Thanks for the advice. 6 minutes ago, dizmo said: What makes you like the iPhone 7? But I just really don't like the looks of Galaxy phones. Thanks for the advice. The Pixel isn't a perfect phone by any means, but from the reviews I've seen on the web, it really is a pretty decent phone. It has top of the line specs, a really great display, a good camera, the Google Assistant (which, from what I've seen, seems to be better than Siri), and, unlike any other flagship out there besides the iPhone, it actually gets timely software updates. It does have some drawbacks, like the weird design of glass on the top third (though if you plan on using a case that shouldn't matter), no water resistance, no microSD slot, and whatnot, but if that doesn't matter to you I highly recommend it. Note though, if timely software updates don't matter that much to you and you really want a microSD slot, you should also take a look at the HTC 10. If you can though you should go to, for example, T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T, or Verizon and check out the phones before making your decision. Hands on experience is always good and generally is better than reading reviews for making a decision. Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Posted November 1, 2016 I have the 7+ and love it, but I'd still recommend the Galaxy if you aren't sure. Basically, if you aren't sold on the Apple ecosystem and user experience, it just feels like it makes more sense to go Android. Better screen, better rooting/jailbreaking, better voice recognition. Basically everything Apple is good at the Pixel or the Galaxy phones can challenge...except the user experience (which is subjective). I just dig the ecosystem and build design way more. Posted November 3, 2016 Having just experienced IOS for the first time with my IPhone 7 plus, I've become a fanboy. Its silky smooth, looks so much nicer and more refined, and the ecosystem is a big plus. Still, if your phone is just a tool then Android gets the job done nearly as well from a practical perspective. I don't really find IOS to be any faster for most typical smartphone tasks.
