Resetting Windows 10

Hello, after having it with issues with Windows 10 preventing me from updating my GPU drivers at all (BSOD occurs if I attempt to update and I have been stuck on the same 16.3.2 version of Crimson) and various just annoying bugs within Windows itself I have wanted to perform a reset to keep my personal files and reinstall Windows.......but that's my major question.......

 

what qualifies as a "personal file?" 

 

It gave me a list of all the things it would remove; any installed software, settings, and etc. 

 

But I want to know how far it actually goes. You can remove a program but leave other files associated with it alone......does it go into secondary drives? I have a secondary drive with a lot on it; does it go into these drives as well? 

 

I haven't seen a clear explanation of how exactly Windows 10 does this. 

 

Tbh, I wish Microsoft would develop some recovery software similar to MacOS/OSX and how it can keep all of your data, including installed programs, and ONLY replace the OS......

move all of the shit off of the install drive, boot up windows setup and format your 500GB drive and then install windows. i'd also unplug the other drive

1) take your documents, pictures, music, videos, game saves, and more them t an external or online storage drive

 

2) have only one drive plugged in

 

3) delete all the partitions on it

 

4) clean install windows on it

 

5) reinstall your games/programs

 

6) move your files back

Probably one of the better options

 

Im also a little concerned with re-activating Windows seeing as I have an OEM license for Windows 7 that has been transferred from a iMac to this current PC and upgraded to Windows 10. Windows says the key is activated to my MS Account, but that doesn't make me feel any better.....

 

unless if I use the Rest everything option in Windows it will do all of that on its own. If that's the case I feel a little better.

any windows 7 or 8/8.1 keys will work with windows 10 as long as it was activated with a computer using your exact mobo. if it makes you feel better, write your key down

then it should be fine. i dont run windows 10, so if you have any w10 related problems im as much use as tits on a fish. enderman runs windows 10 and im pretty sure he'd be glad to help
