GPU Suggestions (Battlefield 1)

Swndlr

Hi friends, so Ive been playing BF1 for about a week now and my one certain takeaway is that my 770 does not like this game, I play 64 player conquest servers and in areas near objectives where a decent amount of stuff is going on I will sit at some stupid low FPS like 18 or 25 and Ill run into enemies point blank and die trying to spray on low FPS and it sucks.

I guess BF1 is the start of the era of games that are going to make me actually need to get a new card, and since I dont really follow PC parts anymore I dont know what falls where or what I would need to get some smooth frames on this game. What are prices for things like the 970 and 980 like now (new or used)? Are the 10 series cards good on the lower end like the 1060 and 1050 (idk if thats a thing)?

1060 6Gb can max it out fine(Dont buy the 3Gb), 1050ti is fine for mid-high settings.

Edit: Forgot AMD. 480 and 470 should both be capable of maxing it out (Obviously 480 will perform slightly better though).

minimum specs are a rx 480/1060 on game debate. I got it and had to refund it because my r9 280 would barely get 30fps on low preset at 720p and it had frame drops whenever i would see someone.  It was really fucking bad performance

1050 Ti is an absolute monster for the price. 1060 to be safe; with its 8gb of ram, you cant go wrong. Should be a great experience for a good while

Just looked up the 1060 and it looks like the price is good as well :D Good thing I suppose.

How does it do in comparison to the 970 and 980? And could I maybe have an easier time finding one of those easier for a similar price?

The 6GB 1060 runs $250-280, less if you catch a sale (especially a jet.com sale) and is on par with the GTX 980. It blows the ever-living crap off of the 770. The 3GB 1060 is really not worth your time if you want a GPU that will hold up for a few years.

The RX 480 is AMD's answer to the 1060. I personally don't think it's as good of a buy because, frankly, it's not as powerful of a card but it retails for about the same price. It is better optimized for DX12 and Vulkan right now, so who knows if that translates into better performance despite a weaker core down the line.

The 1050 Ti really isn't a BF1 card, imo. It's designed for lower-end gamers who are cranking stuff like Rocket League, Overwatch and older AAA titles like Skyrim (not the re-release, the original). 1060 and above is where I'd be looking for higher end applications.

The 1060 has 3 or 6GB of VRAM. You have to step up to the 1070 or down to the 480 for 8GB.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

It performs on par with a 980, but is newer (Supported for longer) and uses less power. Dont buy a 980/970 unless you can get one really cheap, 470/480 and 1060 are better value and are generally cheaper.

Damn, nice to see that the lower tier cards are knocking the higher tier cards of the prior generation out of the water.

Will the 1060 be good if I plan to get a 144Hz monitor and push it that far? If not, what else is on the radar?

Depends if you are willing to turn down some settings. 1060 could probably hit 144fps, but you will need to turn down some settings to do so. The 1070 is better suited for 144hz as it can still max out games at hit that.

Think the 1060 may be the winner.

I only have a 1080p monitor now and the 144Hz one would more than likely be 1080p, so aside from a few other games like GTA and Minecraft with those ultra shaders, I dont think I have much more of a reason to get a 1070 or anything higher than the 1060 really.

Anything will be an upgrade right now tho, my 770 is lagging behind even with the lowest possible preset on BF1, with 1080p and like 70% resolution scale :(

Once you factor the 1060 SLI, yes.

Yes, it is cheaper for them to spell and print gsync on the monitor sticker because 5 letters only while freesync is longer word

I wonder if I could find a 980 for less :P

Although, the 1060 is already very inexpensive for the numbers produces, looks very hard to compete with.
