I am about 2 months away from my first build. I am pretty sure i would like to stick to the stock intel CPU cooler. I don't plan on overclocking, if i do i will buy another cooler.

I don't really want to install an aftermarket CPU cooler, as they look quite difficult, especially on my first build.

What do you think i should do ?

Is a stock CPU cooler good enough ?

To be honest, an aftermarket cooler like the Hyper 212 EVO (Around $20-$30) is easier to install than the stock fan.

Dont use the stock cooler. It barely manages to keep the cpu cool @ stock and it gets loud... reeal loud.

Get this instead: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-rr212e20pkr2

Not really harder to mount than the stock cooler - just follow the instructions.

Intel would not include a heatsink with the CPU if the heatsink was not capable of dissipating enough heat for the CPU to operate safely. It will perform fine, Aftermarket heatsinks for the most part are easy to install, but if you are worried about it the intel cooler will suit you just fine.

how hard is it to push 4 pins through the motherboard? it literally takes 5 seconds to mount the cooler and plug the fan in.

No backplate, just 4 plastic pins that you push through the mounting holes around the socket, seriously it's easier than breathing.

As far as my knowledge goes if you go intel you can stick to the stock cooler. It's pretty quiet (Unless you oc and stuff like that). My scool upgraded there pc's lately and they use stock coolers. And the pc's are silent.

My Pc: Cpu: I7 4790k @ 4,8 Ghz @1,25 volts, Motherboard: Maximus VII Formula, Graphicscard: 2x Titan X @1,4 at stock voltage (soon to be replaced), Ram: 32 gb Corsair Dominator Platinum 2133 Cl 9, SSD: 2x 850 Pro 1 Tb in Raid 0, 2x Samsung 840 Evo 1 tb raid 1,, PSU: Corsair HXi Series 1000W 80+ Platinum, Case: H440. Soon to be watercooled again, maybe, probably, the Titans are too loud.

Follow these instructions to the letter, do not deviate from them or the universe will cease to function:

1. Open CPU box...remove CPU gently and place to the side.

2. Remove stock cooling solution and THROW IT THE F@#K away, far away....don't look where you threw the evil thing...in case it calls you.

3. Because you stated no OC...the Hyper 212 Evo is good enough.

Humor aside....stock is "bleh", some peoples get by with them, others don't.  For a few extra duckies, the Hyper 212 Evo is a good buy and will keep your temps acceptable (or go stupid crazy if your case allows it and get a 140mm cooler and never worry again

That is until the water cooling bug hits you....good luck.

I avoid these things like the plague, back in the socket 775 days you would see these suckers bending and warping motherboards from the amount of pressure that they put on the socket.

That may have been the case back then I wouldn't know but it isn't like that now. The stock cooler works people, it won't let your CPU go into meltdown it won't snap your board and it's so easy to install that calling it easy makes it sound too hard. Intel would not include the thing if it didn't work.

Wait if you're not overclocking why are you getting a 4670K and a Z87 mobo?

I might OC later

Use it until you can afford an aftermarket one, personally I wouldn't OC with one if you paid me.

I've since taken the heatsink off of mine and I am turning it into an Ironman chest piece.....

I'm the one who overclocks.

I'm sad that my Hyper TX3 got damaged when I dropped it and it was bending the living s*** out of my mobo. However, the stock cooler does insanely well for how little it is, and having the fan set at 50%. The load temps are right around 120F, which is right in line with my IceQ video card.

A stock cooler is fine!(just remember not to overclock to much, or you'll crash) but you should try out the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.  It seems quite simple. And provides great cooling.  And Might I ask why you got the 4670k? because you could have saved money, the "k" is for overclocking.  You could have saved money by going with one that cant overclock.
