My first build for my own (Gaming/content creating; EU Region)

Datenshi

Hello,

I don't have a lot of experience building systems though i build a few for friends but none for my own so far. I come from an Alienware Aurora R4 with upgraded GPU and Storage.

Only now I realise what a joke and waste of cash that one was. Because of the GPU upgrade from GTX690 to Asus Strix 980ti, I noticed the card running really hot. 45°C when idle and 85°C on Doom, every setting cranked to max on 4k res. I knew i'd have to upgrade this nearly 3,5year old Alienware at some point and I feel now is the time.

I'll be using this machine for content creating (Adobe AE, 3D modelling, VCP 3D plugins) and 4K games obviously. I'll be taking several components from that build to the new one. Thus I won't wreck my bank account too much.

Parts coming with:

- GPU STRIX 980ti

- SSD Samsung 850 EVO 500GB with Windows 8.1 installed

- HDD Western Digital Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM

Asus PCE-AC68 PCI-Express x1 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi Adapter

Important points for me are:

- I'm really crazy about black and red scheme

- DDR4 upgrade from DDR3

- Like a flashy interior of the case with LED's exposed by a Panel

- Want to get started with overclocking, quite new to this

I've made a list on partpicker:

http://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/qHPs8K

I would like to add some bluetooth connection to this too since I have wireless headphones, but no idea how to.

I'd rather not cross the 1500€ treshold and am sitting at 1200€ atm!

Can anyone suggest if i'll need to add more fans/radiators? I really want to focus on keeping that GPU cool.

Any suggestions/comments would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!

I knew this questions was gonna come up. I bought the 980ti when the new generation wasn't available yet. And yes i didn't check for an upcoming generation, my own stupid fault not to wait it out. But it's too late now, it's still a superb card i'd rather keep on using.

1. Love the i7-6700k pick. it's a wise choice man!

2. I too paid a premium for motherboards for a specific color scheme so I dont have any issues with the motherboard choice.

3. Do not go with that deep cool cooler, I know the external red clear pipe looks amazing but its not a robust enough cooler. The fans are loud and perform subpar for a cooler of this price, I've read reviews when i was shopping for coolers that the bearing in the pump would wear out easily and cause a lot of noise. Factoring in that this pump runs at a whoooping 5000RPM... it's definitely looks over performance.

4. Starting to feel that your build is more revolved around aesthetics here, but i get you man totally understand. Especially coming from a previous Alienware user. I fall for leds all the time.

980 ti is fine. Upgrading to 1070 now is a bad idea

Yeah i know now haha. Still, i can make it work with what I have. Do you reckon i'll need to do something on fans to keep the card cool this time?

Also any idea on how to get Bluetooth connectivity to it?

Thanks

Thanks man. I just would hate myself to build something that i wont end up liking cuz i cheaped out on components..

Would you have any suggestions on adding more fans to keep this GPU cool? Perhaps an idea on Bluetooth connectivity?

in my opinion you should get a mobo that includes built in Bluetooth and for keeping the cards cool... have you considered water cooling it ?

Wouldnt know what to get then... I didn't really check a lot for build in BT.

And water cooling, yes, but i'm afraid that'll push my budget too much and I rather scared of doing it since i have no experience in that regard whatsoever.

water cooling GPU's are a bit different from CPU water-cooling yes, and they are quite pricey

awesome build nice man!!! u can go with some redish case if u want.

Thanks man, and i did look into it, but mostly it's too overkill red then. The case can be more stealthy black in my opinion, while the guts have a red/black theme going on.

here try this, it will take care of wireless and bluetooth + take up less space in you slot area + its even faster than what you have now

As for Bluetooth, the dongles are super cheap however the dongle will use up a usb port. You can solve this by getting a internal usb hub, which usually have 2 internal usb ports and 2 external usb ports inside the case. This will make you future proof for sure! I have a problem with my mobo now due to not enough internal usb2.0 ports on my motherboard for my front I/O, cooler and HUE+. Do take this into account.

If you want internal lighting made easy the NZXT hue+ did the job for me.

Keeping the GPU cool shouldn't be a issue in your case. If you need overclocking for your work or gaming and reach scary temps over 75 Celsius, you would need to consider either getting a new card or water cool that sucker. AE photoshop and Modeling wont be too much of a issue in regards to keeping the GPU cool. But 4k gaming may be tough.
