PSU Required for this Build

Good day, 

 

i would like to hear some of your opinion on what PSU should i bought with my System build.

 

Components

 

Processor:  FX-9590 Black edition

Mobo:          MSI 990XFA GAMING

RAM:          Kingston HyperX FURY 16GB Kit (2x8GB) 1866MHz DDR3 CL10 DIMM - Black

Video card:  MSI GAMING RX 480 GDDR5 8GB CrossFire VR Ready FinFET DirectX 12 Graphics Card (Radeon RX 480 GAMING X 8G) or RADEON R9 390X form MSI

Air Cooler:  DEEPCOOL ASSASSIN II Asymmetric Twin-Tower Design Nickel-Plated Heatsink CPU Cooler for Overclockers (Apparently, it supports FX-9590)

 

could it be gold standard, Silver, or bronze?

500W would be best with 450-550W being a good range.

I would also visit the PSU Whitelist for some of the better PSU's for your system.

Yeah. Preferrably modular, if you can afford it, something like EVGA's BQ series or Corsair's CX-M series.

That's a FX-9590. A 220W TDP chip. At least do 550W

On a serious note, TDP measures how much heat has to be dispersed and isn't a measure of power draw, but you could be right.

You're right about TDP, but it seems to be close enough to use.

 

At 1V, TDP and current draw should be the same (200W = 200VA = 200A at 1V = 16A at the 12V rail)

 

But as voltage increases, heat dissipation will increase faster than current draw.

I thought I read somewhere that most of AMD's (black-series?) 9XXX draw about 130W at full load, but I'd have to check again.

130W if you only do 1 thread

328W full system power at full load, which if the GPU isn't loaded would put it around 200W or more

Yeah, the 9590 is a bit better because of brute force, but is nowhere near an I5

I would say a 5GHz FX could probably come close (25% OC compared to the 4GHz FX-8300), but it's not worth having to buy an overpowered motherboard for.
