The state of Internet service in the United States is a bit of a mess. Unless you're a lucky soul in a Google Fiber neighborhood or a city with a municipal broadband provider, truly high-speed internet access can be hard to get. Even if one does luck out in an area where a high-speed connection is available, service providers can impose onerous restrictions on what customers can do with those tubes. I recently found out I do not have a data cap or slowdown point but I pay out the nose for ($50 a month) for a 30mbps connection (4mbps up). :(

Edit: It would take 3.16 days to download 1 Terabyte of information at 30mbps. So if I had a limit I guess it would be possible to reach it.

On halfway decent 100/5 service from Comcast, and I don't have a cap...yet. I just got an email from Ting saying that they will come to my neighborhood with gigabit fiber service for the SAME price I'm paying now, if enough people preorder the service  for $9. I've paid that $9 for several of my neighbors already.

Hell if I was in your situation I would have pre-ordered for the whole neighborhood. Lol.

Can I be your neighbor, although I don't want to trade the lesser evil of TWC/Spectrum for Comcast.

I pay for 150/15 with Time Warner. I don't mind it, I just wish I had another option for internet other than Time Warner or AT&T.

On average over 30 days (according to the built in thing in windows) I use 500gb a month. Most of that is the stuff we can't talk about on here, less than 100gb of that is actual legitimate usage of the internet.

Im getting google fiber soon, and its gonna be awesome. TWC Sucks though.... I had to go down to a 100mpbs because Google fiber is coming in like a week or something to our house, and the internet keeps dying and coming back. FOR A WHOLE 2 DAYS THE INTERNET WENT DOWN, AND CAME UP FOR ONLY 0.5 SECONDS!

Yeah I've been itching to get away from Comcast for a while due to slow speeds and terrible customer service (like, I have some real horror stories if you want to hear them). But now that I'm going to have a 1TB cap I need to get away like, now. My family uses about 3 TB a month...

I do have a speed cap, but with 100 GB data and a 10 down 1 up connection is just fine for my usage. For $30

Wow... I have used 128GB since yesterday morning according to Windows 10. That's just on my Desktop. Lol.

I wouldn't trust Windows 10 very much, considering that it's telling me my laptop which does not have an ethernet port has used 4GB of data over ethernet in the past 30 days...

That's super strange man. Mine says 4gb on Ethernet too and I don't use Ethernet.

Weird. I don't use ethernet on my desktop either, I'll check there when I get home in a couple hours.

10gb past 30 days on wifi, 0gb on ethernet. Would probably be higher if I spent more time on videos than reading material

Yeah, that is probably it. I do have VirtualBox adapters in my network settings. Probably for Bluestacks or Ubuntu. Both are in Virtualbox.

My (Australian) ISP offers three plans:

250GB/mo @ $60AU/mo

500GB/mo @ $70AU/mo

Unlimited @ $80AU/mo

Because I'm on ADSL2 still I'm on 250GB/mo because I don't hit that limit. I see no reason to pay them extra for data I'm not using. Now if I had a fibre connection? I might start hitting that limit. But as it is my ISP, looking at their site, only offers one fibre plan with a data limit. And it's a 12Mbps plan with a 250GB/mo limit at $60AU. Which isn't too far off what I have now.....

Fools think they know everything, experts know they know nothing
