As of Now: HTC Vive or Oculus Rift w/ Controllers?

I am looking to get either the rift with controllers or get the HTC Vive. My problem with the Vive is that there don't seem to be as many titles for it and with the oculus controllers coming out it may become more difficult to play them through the HTC Vive (yes you can play oculus games on the Vive). My problem with the oculus it that it uses an inferior tracking implementation. I also am looking to make my own content and it seems as though the vive is easier to develop for.

Havn't heard before that the tracking is inferior. Can you link some sources on that?

The Oculus tracking system is fine. 

 

The Rift is more comfortable, convenient, and simple. It has a big advantage with ASW. Most games will run fine on both Rift and Vive, but once the Touch controllers are out, the Rift is the better overall VR solution.

Rift has just as good tracking and isn't on Valve time for updates.

Aye, thats why I asked. My impression was that the Vive currently is overall more liked because of the better overall experience with the added controller, while the Rift is a couch seater. With the controllers it should also deliver that freedom. But just comparing the headsets in quality of vision and comfortability, most people find the Rift a bit better one.

Yep, the Vive has a big advantage right now with motion controllers. Couch VR (or standing/walking around without motion controllers) is fine, but there's a whole section of content you need motion controllers for. But once that difference goes away, the smaller advantages the Rift has in comfort etc. are going to make the difference.

 

I'm sure Valve/HTC will eventually strike back. They teased a prototype of next-gen motion controllers recently, for example. But it'll be a while before any of that happens.
