Would having Linux on a separate hard drive be good for doing schoolwork?

Go to solution Solved by Flojer0,

You want to look into puppy linux and unetbootin for flash drive installation. After you have that you will need to set your motherboard boot priority to the flash drive. Then whenever you want a small light linux just plug the flash drive in before booting.

Edit: As a bonus puppy linux runs entirely in ram, so you could get a small taste of what it's like to free yourself from mechanical storage if you haven't already.

I've been thinking about loading Linux on my second hard drive to do schoolwork. I basically only need to use a Web Browser for my online school for the most part, and as far as I am aware Linux uses a lot less system resources which would be very nice to have when I only need to do minimal tasks like word documents, online quizzes, and maybe some listening to music. I'll still have Windows 7 on my other hard drive, but I would probably only boot into it when I want to play games. So would it be worth it to use, and if so which version should I use? (I'm a complete noob when it comes to Linux, so I don't really know too much except that it's supposedly better in a lot of ways.)

PC Specs

CPU: AMD FX 8150 GPU: Asus GTX 550 ti RAM: 8 GB 1600 MHZ Case: Cooler Master HAF 912 PSU: Some cheapy 800 Watt PSU :/

Dont need a hard drive for Linux, just use a flash drive.
