Are WD Gold more reliable than Reds?

Are WD Golds more reliable than WD Reds? Just wondering because Reds are marketed as NAS harddrives and Golds are marketed as Datacenter harddrives.

They appear to be essentially HGST helium drives which means they should be very reliable, and given the fact that red drives are consumer while gold are for servers and such it can be assumed they are higher quality however I doubt the price difference is justified as server parts go for a premium

To put it vaguely-- No in my own experiences.  I've had consumer drives out-live enterprise drives in the same storage scenario.

A big advantage to enterprise drives has been the warranty length.

On average yes, datacenter drives have a longer MTBF.
