By stable, I mean the most consistent performance. I love the power my 290X has, but it drops frames and stutters so often, and is very finicky with overclocking (just like all Hawaii cards). Is there a GPU known for it's reliable performance? Something that's as powerful as a 290X or greater would be nice. I was thinking of something from Nvidia but I don't like them as a company very much. I like the RX 480 but idk if that's what I'd be looking for, I know my 290X is faster.

Edit: The reason I ask is because I've started playing a lot of Forza Horizon 3 and I regularly drop into the 20-30 FPS range, which is ridiculous.

I used to have a trixx 290x

got horrible stutter after a while

my 980ti doesn't stutter.....ever....(so far).

but there are other problems. Sometimes I get a gray screen on startup, something to do with shadowplay, but it works itself out in like 30 seconds after startup.

See, I don't want any of those problems. Zip, nada, stability. I won't OC if that helps make it more stable. At this point I want consistent performance, not just high framerates when it feels like actually working.

funnily enough, my most stable GPU ever was an old HD 6450

never had a driver issue or performance hitch, and overclocked the thing to the max all the time

ah, good times
