Building this based on what my parents would actually use.

CPU: Went Intel because they won't be into gaming. When I got to the end of the build I pushed this as high as I could within the budget I had left

Motherboard: Cheapest compatible ASUS motherboard, should do the job

RAM: $/GB it's right up the top and I think more would be overkill. No spare RAM slots but this is a budget build

Storage: Went differently here, didn't think my parents would use that much storage. So went out on a limb and gave them a bigger SSD with no HDD

Case: I know I'm spending a little bit more here but it's a nice and compact case. Worth it.

PSU: Corsair, 'nuf said

Peripherals: Black to match the case, Logitech, lowest price. Went a bit above the bottom with the Speakers because those $10 are very, very average

No Optical Drive: Because even my parents don't use disks anymore.......

Fools think they know everything, experts know they know nothing

Processor - Quad core for multi-tab browsing and integrated graphics for seamless HD playback and some need for speed etc.

Motherboard - Reliable and good amount of ports.

Storage - Hard drive for mass storage and ssd to make everything snappy.

Memory - 4 GB is enough for daily tasks IMO.

Case - Itx because it doesnt have to be big. Also prodigy is something that someone would not mind putting in living room.

Everything else is pretty genric.

Doesn't show a PSU but the case includes a 350 Watt powersupply witch is more then enough for this build and even has room for a decent graphics card for when their son wants to play some call of duty.

No need for an hdd because who's parents really needs more then 250gb?

Here is mine, the A8 might even be too much and still have room to upgrade to a A10. SSD for fast boot times, fast ram because of APU, 1tb HDD for mass storage, Semi-Modular PSU, Cheapo case because its an office PC and does not need to look good, KB & M are good enough, speakers are also good enough.

CPU - MOBO

the CPU and the motherboad selection was obvious because the CPU can handle any modern office style multi-tasking

workload and the motherboard has all the connections and its reiable.

RAM

RAM is just fast and a lot of it for cheap.

Storage

the hybrid drive was a must because a mechanical HDD was too slow and a SSD was too expensive.

i know i can do a 30Gb SSD cash for less then i have to do a software based cashing if some kind

(dont think that is a good solution)

Case

the Case is just cheap.

Power

corsair is just reliable efficient

Keyboard and Mouse

if this is a Office PC some one is going to type a lot. so a good comfortable mechanical keyboard is a must.

same goes to the mouse. its a good one.

Sound

its creative they make good audio products. and its small so leaves a small foot print on the work area.

conclusion - this is a fast PC that can handle may things and is a pleasure to use

There is going to be an issue with your poll since we have to vote in both questions... Meaning the two people in the overflow are going to get more votes...

I'm trying to come up with ways to fix it. I don't want to cap the number of submissions, but it may come to that if in the future we don't get enough votes.

We had a discussion about this in the "hub" thread. The problem with 2 rounds is that in order to give people enough time to vote in both, the contests would need to be 2 weeks instead of 1. The consensus was that a weekly challenge keeps things fresh and interesting. I think it is on the third page of that thread.

It's fine. You can delete your vote and re-vote. It would help as far as clarity goes.

Also, @DEcobra11, you voted for the overflow, but in the overflow section you voted for the first group of submissions. Delete your vote and choose for whom you actually want to vote.

That build is pretty good, but having some 2133 ram would be MUCH better.

that would be overkill for what the system would be used for

APUs benefit from fast RAM. Think of DDR3 vs GDDR5. If you can make up some of the speed difference, you can get better FPS. Teksyndicate did a video on it.
