Netflix awful quality?

So I decided to give Netflix a try, before I always used to download blu ray movies online, which are around 10-15GB for a normal movie.

I have the Ultra HD subscribtion on Netflix, and in settings the playback quality is set to 'high'.

However, I find the quality to be pretty awful to be honest. It's like I'm watching a 2005 DivX movie on my screen.

When I compare it to a movie I've downloaded (Legend of Tarzan, 8GB in this case), the quality is just insanely much better than the Netflix movie I'm watching.

Am I doing something wrong here? My download speed here is 28 mbit/s, which isn't the fastest, but should be plenty for HD am I right?

I mean, be honest, this is a print screen from the new star wars movie, how can someone say Netflix is good quality?

You can't view 4k on your PC so the print screen that you captured is full HD at best.

 

The only way to watch 4k is on an approved TV or streaming device.

Yes I know, but the movies I'm watching aren't even 1080p, 480p at best...it's just awful.

Like I said previously, I have 28mbit/s internet speed, which should be plenty for HD.

played locally is played from a disk or your HDD/ssd directly, streaming is what netflix offers.

Well, you pointed out that you had the Ultra HD package.  I guess that wasn't necessary since you aren't talking about higher quality 4k videos.  You're saying that lower quality videos appear to have lower quality.

How the browsers handle it is very different

 

I watch netflix 99% of the time on my Apple TV and honestly its pretty good, id say 75% as good as a blu ray

 

Google Chrome: up to 720p
Firefox: up to 720p
Opera: up to 720p
Safari: up to 1080p (on Macs running OS X 10.10.3 or greater)
Microsoft Edge: up to 1080p
Internet Explorer: up to 1080p

I just activated Netflix, I have a free month so I just changed it to Ultra HD to test it.

Like I said, the movies are suppossed to be 1080p but are 480p at best with a good internet connection.

I just tried with Microsoft Edge (which is suppossed to support 1080p), quality stays very shitty.

Edit: after waiting a while, the quality did become quite a bit better.

I still think the downloaded movies look waaay better than this, but at least now it comes close to 1080p I guess.

Your not the only one, I hate watching Netflix on my PC is look like **** **** so i watch Netflix on my Xbox one or ps4 or even my tab it is lot better, It is a ****ing pain, I own a 4k monitor But yet Netflix dose not play 4k content on pc only on 4k ready devices.

But ISP throttling. Go to fast.com and if it is less then your 28 then you are being throttled

You could try this chrome extension, it made a big difference to me.

I pay for 30 mbit, internet is always between 25-30 mbit. I'm talking about my dorm room here, if that matters.
