New sound card

Mac

I'm thinking about upgrading my sound card from a 50p USB one I bought last year.

I was wondering whether to get USB or PCI.

I don't have much to spend so about £20, I've been looking at the Asus Xonar DG.

Any other suggestions of what I should get?

go usb until you get at least a 990fx board. that way you can still throw a 280x into your rig without dropping your lanes to 8x/4x.

I'm going to need something that outputs from USB if it's external, the sound on this mobo never worked.

hmm. according to the connection diagram on amazon it seems like you can connect the DAC to a computer via USB and then output to either headphones, an amp or active speakers.

No, it only gets power over USB. Edit: That diagram on Amazon is for the E9, not the E3.

Grab this (but don't use the ehadphone port for headphones) instead: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Behringer-UCA202-U-Control-low-latency-Interface/dp/B000KW2YEI/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1382089398&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=behringer+uca202

I think the d3 needs an optical or coax input, the usb is just for power.

that receiver is a bit weird, there's no digital input only stereo analog input.

this would probably be the best you can do for around 20 pounds.

Will work for electronic components and parts
