A 1070 can easily handle 1440p. I have mine hooked up to a 1080p ultrawide and have no regrets about the configuration.

1440p. Your 1070 should be able to handle that greatly.

If you have enough money go for a 1080p/1440p ultrawide with the highest refresh rate possible

I have the same issue, I'm looking at the 34in LG Widescreen 75hz 1080p monitor from Newegg for $289.99(refurbished). Asus 1070 Strix.

1440p Master Race!

My 1070 handles my 1440p 165hz display fairly well.  For very demanding games, you will normally be 60 ot 70 fps, and for less demanding games you can run over 100.  I've been playing Toxikk (very fun arena FPS that just came out) and average about 120 fps.
