Hey there,

My specs are:

Intel Core i5 @ 2.3GHz

8GB RAM

Nvidia 940M 4GB vRAM

I've been using OBS to record without any issue for a while now, but I've run into an issue with more demanding games where the video recorded by OBS is slow and stuttery, but what I'm playing isn't actually stuttering at all. It's completely smooth. I've tinkered with my settings a bit, but haven't been able to work it out on my own.

Thanks!

It's probably your storage bottleneck causing it to drop frames.

Buy an SSD.

Usually when I'm recording I make sure that as little as possible is running in the background, I've messed around with it and I'm not sure if the background processes are doing anything.

Also I haven't had any issues with recording on a mechanical hard drive before, I also don't think I can afford an SSD with enough storage lol.

As for codec, I'm still pretty new to using OBS, I have 'Recording Quality' set to 'High Quality, Medium File Size', 'Recording Format' set to 'MP4' and 'Encoder' set to 'Software(x264 low CPU usage preset, increases file size)'

I recently changed it to that because it was complaining at me and stopped when I changed it.

I have yet to delve into the output mode's advanced option because I'm not sure what I'm doing.

EDIT: I'm not sure how much it matters but in the 'Video' tab I have it set to scale to 1280x720, Bicubic and 30fps
