Casemod Bulgar a modular test bench adventure

Hi everyone my name is Mickee from the Philippines and I would like to share this build in this community, The Idea is to make a modular test bench in a Thermaltake Core X71. Wish me luck! :)

Here is what I have in mind but I really suck at following plans basically it might change later down the line :)

Here is the Core X71

To kick things off lets start to strip the case down.

They were really easy to remove.
2cgzfid.jpg

For this batch I used a drill to take out the riveted parts.

16bna8m.jpg

I'm really not an expert in sleeving that is why I use sleeved extensions on my builds but I want to try it out this
time,

Clean looking cables from the front I/O would be nice.

m7tg1i.jpg

The front audio cord needs to be stripped off its rubber coating because I only have 3mm sleeves.

ve0lqg.jpg

I am very slow at this lol this took me about 30 minutes.

2f0dggh.jpg

And yes! but I don't know where I can get a sleeve that would fir the USB 3.0 cable :(

EVGA!!

Lets unbox them!!

Lets start with the memory modules :)

Superb packaging!

I am going to sleeved them later down the line.

Going back to the card itself.

It is massively awesome!

2rekxmg.jpg

xgmrmg.jpg

2guz1g0.jpg

hsv0j8.jpg

5x68ty.jpg

That was a blast!

So that took a lot of time for me because I was really amazed with your products and by the way this is my first time
using EVGA gears :)

Going back to the case :)

The case has temporarily lost its rigidity when the motherboard tray and rear panel was removed so aluminum bars to
the rescue! I like using aluminum bars because they are easy to cut and file.

25ev8yw.jpg

1zb5rb7.jpg

I also gave the case a little tilt :)

v6m4gj.jpg

10eh1me.jpg

It not super sturdy yet but it will be later :)

3mm Acrylic will serve as out motherboard tray for this project, some cutting and measuring.

ne87wk.jpg

Aluminum bars for the skeletal system of the modular test bench.

2a4tmj6.jpg

34e28mh.jpg

So those are all that I have so far, I am working on the measurements them cut them altogether then screw or have them
riveted to the relevant points.

Next update will be on the weekend, see ya!

A few updates for now, I have always used sleeved extensions on my
previous builds so I am not an expert in sleeving but this time I am
giving it a shot and I would like to get it out of the way because I am
really slow at this. Color of the sleeves are Black, Carbon and very
little white on the 24 pin cable.

So here we go :)

5kf5md.jpg

A good friend gave me one of his DIY pin extractor, thanks man!

Here is the 24 Pin cable.

and some other shots :)

2e6dkkx.jpg

I haven't done the Sata and 4 pin molex yet because I ran out of Carbon

sleeves :P So I have slow progress right now but I think that it's

better than none ;)

Thanks and see you on the next update :)

I am very sorry for the lack of updates this past few week but hey I'm back on

track :) Also sorry but the pictures that I have right now are not with the

best quality it is raining all day :( when the sun comes back tomorrow I'll

take it outside for better images :)

Let me go back with the case, here is the skeleton for the modular test bench

1tlzbo.jpg

It fits exactly as planned.

wjpsz.jpg

Tubular aluminum to thumb screw the test bench on to.

dgl8cm.jpg

Ohh sliders <3

25yxjsw.jpg

I also need to make handle bars out of flat aluminum.

9symh1.jpg

Manual bending yeah!

2usfjer.jpg

The integrity of the case has been compromised since most of its parts was

removed so I have some reinforcing to do.

9u0pcl.jpg

Connected!

swqotk.jpg

Custom acrylic panels will be placed on the sides of the case mounted on the

sliders and I have to give those sheets some curves. I have been bending

acrylic sheets with a heat gun since day 1, I guess I'm tired of that :P Very

timely a friend handed down some Nichrome wire yes it's time for a DIY line

bender. (I just followed some youtube guide on how this is done)

243rr6t.jpg

Power source is a PSU that I took from an SFF PC that I haven't used for a very

long time, I try to save money whenever I can :)

2ppg134.jpg

So with some ply board, nails , wood screws, alligator clamp, old PSU and

Nichrome wire we now have this :)

30xanaq.jpg

Time to use it on the panel for the project.

mmygx4.jpg

2vwe70l.jpg

zofdj6.jpg

Mounted!

2yvrztl.jpg

I will be back with better images of the progress! thanks :)

Hi everyone I am back with a few

Worked on the mobo tray

2nmxzd.jpg

My handwriting is super bad lol

2iaxwdl.jpg

Removing those 2 thumb screws will make the mobo tray pop off the it's base.

2u977fa.jpg

Yes in every project I have to mess one two or three things up lol have to

retouch one of the stand offs as it was not on point,

hs042f.jpg

The Z170 Classified K fits right on top of the custom tray :)

2llhqgl.jpg

EVGA 1000G sitting in there nice and tight.

And some angled shots

Hi, I am very sorry for the lack of updates it was due to the renovation that is still ongoing and my modding area is part of it but now I am back as I've found a
small spot where I can continue my work :) I have also brought in some help with the help of a vinly cutter and a 3d printer which I got a very deal on yay! So I
have some updates :)

First off I have manually cut a couple of EVGA logos with a scroll saw, these will be put on each side of the sliding panels.

eg3hjd.jpg

I spent most of the holidays with the family and the 3d printer lol, It was frustrating at first because I have zero Ideas on how

it works but after plenty of

playing and tinkering around as well as reading I guess I got some decent prints or usable at the very least :) I do not know

how to make my own designs just yet as

I am still focused on understanding its dynamics as a whole so I just print stuff that I find online which suits the mood for the

project ;)

Something has to hold the PSU on the test bench so..

Mobo Stand off

For the GPU

xprjo1.jpg

ndus9.jpg

One of the things that I've learned a few days ago was converting JPEG files to ohh I forgot the file format haha then to STL

as a 3d printable file, so I tried it

on the Gear up logo and wow it worked :) then I just made a few adjustments to better suit my taste.

e9ivlz.jpg

2z6avk9.jpg

Short update but there will be more to come soon!

see ya' around! :)

After a long time I am back with some updates, Modding has stated to pick up since the construction of my little workshop is finished :)

Here we go, Watercooling should be an option with this simple test bench so i found a solution where I can mount a Radiator and a Pump+Res and yes a 3d printed fan grill :)

2a5bpl3.jpg

2w1wkqo.jpg

The plan is for it to be mounted on this position.

1zlzq5w.jpg

Back to the bender for a custom bracket.

nysbx0.jpg

Now we have this and I know this is not the best looking solution but I strongly believe that it will work for me :)

242e5c1.jpg

Screws on! Pump+Res+Rad mounted, it still needs additional support on the lower portion but I'll get back to that later because I want to try and watercool this now :)

2mhbnnc.jpg

CPU block Pacific W3 and behind it is an Intel Core i5 6600K that i forgot to take a photo of since I am too excited but I guess we've all seen that before ;)

ddlyxw.jpg

Pacific 90 degree fittings installed :)

2rqknc4.jpg

Tubes done annnd the here are the random shots :)

19wimq.jpg

mceq9v.jpg

2dag115.jpg

I've tested it for leaks and luckily there was none, Some of the parts for this mod are being detailed already and those will be up on the next updates ;)

later!!
