Classics

Got my windows aero + rounded windows back :D

I also have a question, do any of you actually prefer the solid colour themes with boxy windows that comes with Windows 8 by default?

I think Windows 8 is beautiful naturally, just has one horrible change made to it (the start menu).

I prefer the minimal design in win 8 by default. Except they need a start button. They NEED a start button. Settings though should be as extensive as possible.

Indeed :)

I went out of my way to get aero, I used custom themes when I had XP and jumped on Vista when I got the chance. Think I'm the only person that prefers Vista to XP.

I much, much, MUCH prefer the straight corners of the Windows 8 theme.  Window borders and items on the taskbar look so much cleaner.

But dat Aero glass. :D Hopefully that Aero 8 theme gets a Windows 8.1 version soon.  It looks wonderful.

I prefer square corners, because it fits better with the UI design of the OS. The hole GUI is squared edges.

Imagine vising a website where some elements are round corner and other are straight. It will look like 2 website stolen and put together. Interface Design 101.

Windows 8 beta used to have glass look, but everyone was complaining on how it didn't fit well.

windows_8_build_8102_by_crisisred-d49upv

(yes there was the Start Button, which everyone complained about, and requesting to have it removed, as it made it look like the Start Menu will show, when you have the Start Screen).

You can see the mess that you get when you listen to people.

The problem with Windows 8 is Windows 8.  Why would I take the time to mod Windows 8 when I could just stay with Windows 7?

I believe you are using this:

http://glass8.berlios.de/features.html

However what I notice, because I just tried it (I don't care, I'll install 8.1 tomorrow when it comes out.. might as well do wtv with it), the following:

- First of all, you get an annoying pop-up to donate every time, and calls home.

- But also, the contrast is too strong on the glass.

- Edge of the glass effect on boarders have no edges on not focused window, and hard to see on focused windows. So it's hard to identify the border. Annoying when multitasking.

- Text is on caption bar has no glow, making it hard to read on backgrounds, unless the background is very bright (but then the task bar items will be hard to read, as the text is white)

- Due to the glass effect, you want a stringer shadow to better differentiate windows, you don't here.

Has a lot of work to do. Including respecting teh user machine by not calling home, and popping up annoying "donate!".

You don't know Windows 8, you have never tried it. So you can't complain.

It's an amazing OS as is. People are just afraid of change. Recall people freaking out on Windows 7 for the new large task bar. Same story, over and over and over again with every version of Windows. The exception is WinME.

You can see on this very forum, how more and more people start liking Windows 8, including the Start Screen.

Too bad Windows 8.1 comes out tomorrow and you cannot upgrade to it and still keep this theme (for now)  :(

Actually I have used it.  I'm not saying it's not usable, I just wouldn't use it for day to day things because I already have an OS that works.  If I was not already using Windows 7 for my main OS, I would consider Windows 8.  And you can make the task bar in Windows 7 small like it was in XP, but you probably knew that.  On a device without a touch screen, I don't think I would be using the start screen as much as with a device that did have a touch screen.

Fair enough. But didn't XP worked fine already ? :)

You'll be surprised actually. I can pin any folder I want. So I put the folders I access a lot, like Download, Documents, Profile folder, and also my project folders. As for games, I have quick easy access to all my games. Large buttons/tiles makes it easy to point and click, especially on a touchpad.
