Want to upgrade my CPU without upgrading motherboard.

I have a MSI Z87 G-45 motherboard with a LGA1150 socket. I want to upgrade my CPU i5-4670k to preferably an i7. Is it worth it to upgrade to an i7 on a somewhat outdated motherboard?

Note I will not be overclocking.

why do you have an K processor when you dont wanna oc? :-/ Well to get an I7 will be an upgrade since Hyperthreading is a nice thing to have :)  and the Mobo is not that outdated z87 is like 2-3 years old that is not outdated ;D

An i7 4770/4790 and there "k" variants would be good upgrades ( the 4790 may require a bios update).

no one can tell you if its worth it or not, unless you tell us why you think you need an i7
do you need the hyperthreading? are you only gaming? using for video editing? rendering?

How... why in the world did you get a mobo for overclocking and CPU for (again) overclocking and you say you won't do it?

If you want a true upgrade, don't get the i7. Rather, get a nice aftermarket cooler (if you don't already own one) and OC your current chip. That will boost performance without spending much.

on a desktop board it is worth upgrading to i7 as hyperthreading adds significant performance. If upgrading to a newer CPU than the cost would be the board and CPU. You might want to check benchmarks between the i7 that your board supports or a newer i7 and weigh the cost to benefit.
