How's the i5 760 holding up these days?

Just wondering how the i5 760 holds up against the likes of the FX6300, Athlon 860k, and Skylake Pentiums/ i3s and if would be worth picking up one used on the cheap as an alternative for gaming?

 Ive seen a few videos around of it seemingly running deus ex: MD and a few other games alright with a mid tier GPU, but there doesn't seem to be many side to side benchmarks around.

not bad, but an FX-6300 would be better...even better would be an i5-4460/4590 or i5-6400/6500

Not too well, it is comperable to a stock 860k/880k, and gpus like the rx 470/480/gtx 1060 will be bottlenecked by it.

I just double checked that it was the i5 6xx series that were dual cores.

yeah i5-760 is an old quad-core...like...from before they became fast (i5-2500)

It is able to run games with mid range GPU , but a newer chipset should be considered. Motherboards for i5 760 are more difficult to find and hence more expensive. And the main issue is that it's an very old chipset and will become obsolete after one or two years. Go for skylake, pick up i3 6100 with a mid range GPU. And if u r on a very low budget, at least get Pentium g4400, though I would not recommend that as games require at least 4 threads to run properly, but u can of course upgrade to an i5 later by doing that. Go for an i3 6100 and a gtx 960 or even a 1060 if u wish to upgrade the CPU in near future. And be sure to go for DDR4 memory.
