$1200-$1400 PC Build

rphawks

Hey guys, this is my $1200-ish build. I don't have an exact budget, but I wish to keep it around $1200.

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/rphawks/saved/vy9j4D

I don't know whether to stick to this power supply or switch to the Corsair RM550x.

FAQ:

Why the 1070?

Sli compatibility, not willing to spend that much on the 1080.

Why 6600k? Why not wait for Kaby Lake?

I'll probably build this PC before the desktops Kaby Lakes come out.

Notes:

Also, if possible, it would be nice to keep to a back and blue color scheme. I know I sorta violated my own rule with the MSI card, but I can probably deal with that.

Any feedback is appreciated!

Looks very decent. The only thing I would swap would be the Motherboard for a Z170 Extreme. Better features and better overclocking.

1.) I'm not really sure about buying from Kinguin... just a personal thing.

2.) What's the real difference between the two mobos?

3.) I'd rather stick to a 6600k, I don't think there is much gaming improvement between the two CPUs.

4.) Why the 212 EVO? I know it's the best for the price, but the H7 cools much better.

1. I have bought around 10 Windows licenses from Kinguin and 2 Overwatches, GTA, BF3&4 and Far Cry from there too.

2. Theres not much differences in the mobos, Extreme has slightly better overclocking abilities.

3. If you have even a shall change to do something productivity related with the PC, I really suggest i7. If your truly only purpose of this machine is gaming, you should definetly stick with the i5.

4. EVO is just preference. If you want the maxium cooling performance you should choose Macho (best air cooling in the market)

I mean, I won't be using it for anything but gaming and for school. No heavy Vegas Pro video editing or anything.

I am using the 6600K and for gaming it is awesome. When I open HWmonitor and game the whole day it hasn't reached more than 95% cpu usage. When I record while gaming it's at 100% usage almost the whole time, but I've solved  that by overclocking it to 4.5Ghz at 1.245v stable. The overclock makes a huge difference.

Here is my recommended computer build.

A solid and fast computer system for less than $1,050.

Noctua makes one of the best air-based CPU coolers you can buy. I am using one right now and keeps the CPU cool even under heavy loads.

Thanks for all of the list suggestions! This is my current look on things:

MadG4mer

1.) I still want to buy my OS from Microsoft. I don't want there to be any software or license problems. Just being cautious.

2.) Sticking with the Gigabyte board, I like how it works and Gigabyte's boards are supposed to last very long.

3.) Again, sticking with the i5, as I don't need the extra threads in the i7. Not worth the extra $100 in my opinion.

4.) I already mentioned I'm not willing to pay that much for a GPU, so I'm getting the GTX 1070.

Buzzsaw

5.) A lot of those parts are cheap for reasons. A $20 dollar price difference and 1/2 the write speed on the SSD. Not worth it.

6.) Most of the other stuff is not what I'm looking for, I'm looking for best quality for its price, not just cheap parts.

7.) Umm... there's an error in your signature. "i7-6600k". Just thought I'd let you know.

herman mcpootis

8.) OS and CPU addressed above.

9.) The SK Hynix is definitely a great buy, but it has a 3-year warranty instead of 5 on the 850 EVO. I'm trying to make sure I have the best base parts and upgradability. Probably won't be building another PC for at least 3-4 years.

10.) That case isn't exactly what I'm going for, but it's a nice case, just I prefer the look of the current one.

11.) I won't be using Bluetooth anyways for the card, but I saw that there are reviews on the old one... so mainly going based on that.

Now I know I didn't accept any feedback, but don't think I'm super critical! I'm sure you all can see the reasoning behind my statements, so know that I'm analyzing your feedback as it comes in.

Also, do any of you have any feedback on the PSU choice (EVGA 550W GS or Corsair RM550X)?

Thanks for all the feedback guys!

3. If you're playing at 1080p 144hz, any i5 will bottleneck the gtx 1070, so getting an i7 will be better. If you're playing at 1080p 60hz/1440p than the bottleneck shouldn't be noticeable and you'll be fine going with the i5.

9. The hynix should still last for longer than the warranty period, 5 years or not(hardware doesn't really fail so easily if it doesn't die in the first few months) but if you insist, the samsung is still a good choice.

10. I don't really see the appeal of the zalman you picked, doesn't look as good as the dukase imo. Just a personal opinion.

11. The new rev 4.2 should do better than the original one and its cheaper, no reason at all for you to pick the older product.

Psu:i think the RMX will be better, but really the quality should only be margin of error difference. Consider the GQ 650w instead, its cheaper and will do just as well.

3.) The i5 should last me until it's time to get a new CPU, and I'm not planning to play at 144hz.

11.) I just looked into it and found more reviews on it. I'll be getting the new one, it's faster.

The Deepcool case has some bad reviews, and that's why I'm sort of not completely happy with it. I would still stick with the Z1 Neo, but PCPartPicker says it can't tell if the H7 and Z1 Neo or compatible. Any fixes?

I'm a console gamer switching to PC gaming and I've been researching and putting together components for my first PC build. I'm going for a mid-high end PC hoping to play in 1440p most of the time. This is what I'm thinking of getting:

Intel i5-6400

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

ASUS H170 Pro Gaming

HyperX FURY Black 16GB Kit (2x8GB) 2133MHz DDR4

EVGA Geforce GTX 980 Ti Hybrid

EVGA SuperNova 650 GS 80+ GOLD 650W

Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB

Phanteks Enthoo Pro Full Tower

I'm pretty confident that this will be a solid set up for what I want, however I do have one more question before I start purchasing these products:

Is it necessary (if not highly advised) to have a PCU cooling fan with the i5-6400 and if so will the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO be sufficient enough? (I'd rather spend a little extra now than worry about the PCU not lasting very long).

I'd appreciate any input from those who understand these things better than I!

Also I think that the GTX 980 Ti Hybrid will  be enough so that I won't have to overclock (hence the i5-6400) but I'd love to know if people agree/disagree.

No. You absolutely do not need anything better than the cooler that comes with the cpu if you are not overclocking. Your cpu will not last noticeably longer if you did. However, a better cpu cooler could be an upgrade in terms of silence. As the stock coolers can be noisy. I wouldnt worry about it and just get one later if you really think its necessary.
