Best cheap platform for overclocking fun

What is the best platform that is cheap on the used market to overclock for fun. Not going for performance here, but OC fun.

Since you're going for fun, I'd say a Skylake Z170 + Hacked BIOS + Pentium G440

Linus loves a 3rd gen K series over-clock, cant remember what it was though. Some CPU video, Ive only found 2 or 3, might be in his new one but I doubt it, maybe his TechQuickie channel.

3rd gen is at a weird spot because both the CPUs and boards are still expensive

The fastest CPU in the Intel SKU is the i7-6700K.

How much you can over clock these I do not know, maybe it was the date of the video as to why he picked the 3rd gen.

Maybe overclocker website would have a list of how high you can OC chips safely.

 

Maybe find the fastest K in 4th/5th gen.

775 is better than 1366.

LGA 775 you need a good motherboard for though.  I was able to hit 615FSB on a Rampage Extreme quite easily.

I used to have a C2D E8400 that did 4.2 Ghz.

 

However many years later, and Intel's latest Broadwell-E chips still only OC to around that much lol.

Well. That failed miserably. I had my trusty old radeon, and a pentium 4 die on me, but worst of all, my board does not support overclocking.
