AMD FX-8370 Overclocking and Bottleneck?

I am currently focused on a build which you can see here: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/JmH2m8

I'm planning to overclock the FX-8370 with it's Wraith Cooler.

My questions are:

1: How much can I overclock it?

2: Temps?

3: Will I need another cooler if I overclock to the maximum limit?

--------------------------------

The 2nd Question is, if you saw my build above this text (Somewhere up there ↑ ↑ )

Since there's 2 RX-480s will it bottleneck with CPU?

Do you have the system already? If no I'd recommend an Intel system.

It would likely bottleneck the cpu since xfire 480s is quite a bit of gpu power and the fx cpus are quite weak

Also for 300 bucks you could get an i5 and a 1150/1151 board so I don't know why you chose amd

Would an i5 6600K bottleneck or no?

at this point i simply cannot recommend FX anymore, in the same way i cant recommend you buy an i7 2600k new.

if you are interested in an intel CPU, i'll plan out a different build for you based around an intel chip, otherwise i'd suggest waiting out for what zen has to offer. whatever zen turns out to be, it'll be better than FX...

I'll just stick to my older build with a 6600K and a 1070

- 6600k

- the less ugly brother of the hyper 212 evo

- msi pc mate is kind of my goto motherboard to recommend

- 16GB DDR4 memory, ram is ram

- 480GB SSD, i've been eyeing that specific one myself, i have it's 240GB brother

- spinning rust, it spins, its rust, and it stores a whole terabyte.

- GTX1070, the pricing on the evga cards isnt too bad appareantly

- define S master race, together with define R5 master race :P cant go wrong with a fractal case.

- evga nex is potato, almost overlooked this one, i went for a corsair RMx, a quality evga unit is available at slightly less, but corsair power supplies just look nice in fractal cases IMO :P

- kept the wifi adapter there, i dont care for wifi, you do you.

- 3 fractal fans, put these in the front of your case, they'll turn it into a windtunnel :D

all in all roughly the same price as your original build, but you gain a newer architecture CPU (be honest with yourself FX is dated at this point...), DDR4 memory, no crossfire issues, and to be honest with you, i dont like the look of the wrath cooler either :P

Yes. From personal experience and the experience of well regarded tech journalists, anything above the level of the R9 380 / GTX 960 will be held back by AMD FX processors, 2x RX 480s without a doubt exceeds that level of performance.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

depends on how cpu heavy the game is, and how multithreaded that cpu heavyness is tho.

but generally: D.O.N.T. in terms of buying amd FX new in 2016 :P

It's all very dependent but typically speaking, that's the level of performance I would pair with an FX processor before deciding to invest more into a better processor (e.g. Xeon E3 or Core i5).

Honestly though, I wouldn't bother considering an FX processor outside of a few rare cases.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Well, should I stick with my original build since it's a "Black 'N White" Build or should I go with yours? Which one do you recommend.

Definitely stick with the i5-6600K Intel build.

I've used a FX-8350 for about ~3 years now.

Not worth getting the an AMD AM3+ or FM2+ system this deep (how deep?) into 2016 -- especially when 'Zen' is less than a few months away.

If you asked to build a system last year or 2014, on a budget, then sure, I would have still recommended an AMD based system. Not anymore.

Crossfire (and SLI) have come a long way. Depending on the games, you can get 85% ~ 90%+ scaling.

Heck, I've ran three-way Crossfire with HD 5850's at one point...not great.

Two-way Crossfire with HD 7970's was much, much better.

I just got a second Sapphire NITRO R9-Fury today for cheap {1-month old, $200 below retail}, so will find out about the newer generation cards soon enough
