Not dead, postponed. I got busy with studying, and also doing up a car this year however I Have a 3 week semester break in a couple of days so I will try get some of this new desk done (basically just revamping the old desk)

It will be all in arms at the end of the year though when I am working and have some spare $$$ to spare on an entire new build

Not much alteration but I went for a more modern handle and brushed metal accenting. A dark wood would look best with the metal. You could use these drawer mechanisms, they're really cool! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0Wufrbp63Y

I really like this Idea, I'm thinking on doing one my self.

to me the space above your legs where the reservoirs are is too big and empty feels like it needs something else to be visually appealing but this is really subjective.

I also would try to make it a bit thinner

I would probably hinge the glass to make it easier to open and work in it, but you'll have to take into account the way you are going to set your displays.

maybe a third leg center-back if you are placing your monitor on top of the glass.

btw I downloaded sketchup from google and chrome just told me it was a malicious file (I'll try it in a couple days)
