Is alienware good?

They're expensive but yes. Machines are well built and support is top notch. If budget isn't an issue, they are as good of an option as any.

He's right... They're a bit overpriced for what they are, but most of their laptops are good.

Its technically good, if you want to spend more than you actually need to. However, that's really what you have to deal with if you ever buy a prebuilt at all. Alienware just takes it to the next level.

only issues ive had were support but its improved a fair amount over the years

Don't buy Alienware. You'll end up with an overpriced PC, with 20% of the performance you could have gotten if you spent your money right.

 

Also, their motherboards are proprietary, leaving you little to no room for upgrading or reusing.

Currently, Dell rank #2 in terms of customer support among laptop OEMs so yeah. Their support has improved a LOT (I can personally attest as I RMAed to them about 2 months ago. Very slight screen flicker, got an entirely new unit in a sealed box - not refurbished)

if this was 4 years ago id avoid dell and alienware like the plauge but in the last year ive been treated like gold  , i had a 2015 15" laptop. it had dead pixels and 5 min on the phone they got me an rma ez , quite pleased with em tbh

As someone who owns an Alienware Aurora R4 - none of that is true other than the expensive part. 

 

They used to be an okay company until Dell took over. Now your better off buying a pile of poop and sticking a cool sticker on it.

They are expensive but very well made, well specced and well designed machines

 

they have great battery life and performance, and pretty much top notch

 

but expect to pay for it!

Pretty sure both facts I stated are pretty objective.

 

- Overpriced, as you can build a PC with the specs they use for much much less.

- Proprietary, which is inconvenient, as their mobos can't be reused and PCs are hard to upgrade.

Pretty sure that has no connection to the quality of the machine. It costs a lot - yes. Is it good - yes. End of discussion.

My motherboard stopped working and I called support. They told me it would cost $900 to fix not including shipping. I can buy a replacement motherboard for 300 dollars at worst. Also they don't speak English well at all - which is important for customer support. All they do is read the cards, regardless of what I tell or ask them. I would rather deal with an automated machine so I can at least understand what they are saying. Also I was on hold for 3 hours before any of that even happened. They also are notorious for using crappy components such as ram and psus.

No, it was the result of a power surge which is not covered by the warranty.

Then why exactly are you surprised? That is normal for ANY OEM when the damage is not covered under warranty. Hell, Asus/Acer won't even bother to talk to you, they just hang up.

Alienware machines don't suck, but they're only good in any way if PC's are magic boxes to you.

It's very easy to build a computer better than an Alienware for less, so they have no place.
