Is Alienware good?

Alienware machines don't suck, but they're only good in any way if PC's are magic boxes to you.

It's very easy to build a computer better than an Alienware for less, so they have no place.

Unless you want a laptop. Good luck building that :D

Then why exactly are you surprised? That is normal for ANY OEM when the damage is not covered under warranty. Hell, Asus/Acer won't even bother to talk to you, they just hang up.

No one will charge you nearly the entire cost of a computer BEFORE shipping to fix it. Unless you are Alienware. Also they won't sell replacement parts, they require you to send it in. Dell's business practices are barbaric. I honestly didn't think anyone in their right mind would try to defend such a shit company lol.

Eh, I have no idea how Alienware stacks up for laptops. I'm sittin' pretty with my T450s and I don't really pay attention to that market.

I'd be impressed if their support was as good as Lenovo's, though.

Plenty of other laptops out there for a better value. Alienwares have good aesthetics, but other than that you can find something better for cheaper.

Not necessarily true, depends on the machine

they are pretty competitively specced and priced, they have some of the best cooling, great battery life (especially like the 13" which is like macbook level good)

They are very well built, and with great "gamer" aesthetics (if thats your thing)

Also their have decent software, and dell support is better than most other gaming laptop companies especially as your generally get superior support with the gaming laptops like next day engineers

Not that much better actually. The cheap laptops with similar specs usually fall apart within 1-2 years.

They're overpriced bling rigs that are the most shoddily put together computers I've ever seen.

My friend in Virginia had an Alienware Desktop, and they shipped it with only a 300w power supply despite it having an i7 and a GTS 660 for christs' sake. And he had to have his motherboard replaced 3 times because Alienware thinks that just swapping a mobo will solve everything. And one of the times they did, they didn't even put thermal paste back on the cpu, so that burned up and died too.

My friend in Texas, he has an Alienware gaming laptop, and he gets blue-screens every day and most of them don't even give him an error code. He's had everything swapped out at least twice, and the case is made of—admittedly pretty—but shitty plastic like you'd get from a $1 toy from a drug store.

More or less, if you just want some bulky—but flashy and shiny n00b bling to showoff, and don't mind having a system cost 3x the cost of its actual parts, and customer service that would make the DMV look like saints, then go for it.

I won't know you're talking to me unless you reply/quote me.

Yeah, what about the LTT user who sent his G551 for screen RMA and never got his laptop back and Asus proceeded to block his number and not answer his emails. Thread is on laptop section - date was around December 2015. Or the person who sent Asus their GPU and they returned it saying "artifacting is norma"l"?

lately I have been reminded about that a lot...

Yes I send a Asus laptop into RMA, returned with the same flaws and a cracked screen and bezel, they said that they didn't do it and wanted me to pay for the fix, if I wanted to have it fixed, just until I showed them a pic 5min before they got it and then they could fix my screen, but they still didn't want to fix my bezel. Also the first RMA took 8 weeks, the next one took 12 weeks (screen fix) and there was still a flaw so one more RMA (the theird) that one took 9 weeks.

Exactly - your personal experience is not the sole determining factor. There is a reason for Asus to be ranked #7 on LaptopMag's customer support chart.
