R9 280X vs 7970 vs GTX 770

I've held off on buying a new graphics card for 2 months because everyone was saying to wait for the 9000 series. Now that the 280X has been released and appears to be the same as a 7970, should I get a 7970 instead at a slightly lower price? The GTX 770 is more expensive but most of the models look better (ASUS GTX 770 has a backplate unlike ASUS 7970 etc.). Alternatively, I could get a 7970 Lightning for less than a 770 but more than a 280X. What should I do?

If you want get a 7970, if you can find it less then the R9 280x, if you want to get a gtx 770 I would say to get on with 4gb memory, because alot of future games will be recommend to have 3gb+

Are there any features that the 280X comes with that are unavailable on the 7970? Will TrueAudio work on the 7000 series? Also, I don't see the 280X shipping with a Never Settle bundle on NCIX. Has this been removed from new graphics cards?

true audio does not work on the 7970 or the 280x, both are the same card.

go for what is cheapest as tbh all the cards you listed perform on a very similar level

What is the best looking 7970 model available? I was thinking of the 7970 Lightning Edition from MSI

A lot of them have blue/red PCBs and I'm looking for something to match a black and white color scheme

If you got the moneybags, 770 4GB. Other than that, the R9.

Tbh i find 770 4gb version against 7970 complete waste of money. Even the 2gb version of 770 is more expensive than 7970 and they literally perform the same. You cant feel the difference in games what so ever.

Mantle is going to be a huge deal, if you getting a card now it better be AMD, the 7970 and 280x are at the level of the 770 and with Mantle they will get a big boost.

If you do decide to get a 770 have a look at some of the manufacturer overclocked version, the AMP! version I have almost gives me the same frame rates as a 780...
As people have said previously though, if you want to future proof it would be worth getting a 4gb version.

The 7970 lightnings are around 500 USD i would go with a 7970 but you can find one much cheaper around 300 right now. and just OC it.

Sapphire 280x Toxic is the hottest topic in my local forum at the moment. One with the highest factory overclocked 280x at 1150mhz, new triple fan cooler from Sapphire and cost just over $380 here in Malaysia.

It won't match your Black and White build though but it got pretty smexy backplate.

Why not wait a little longer for the 290x? Or is that out of your budget?

My budget is $430 maximum. The 280X is $300. Unless the 290 (not the 290X) fits my budget I doubt I'll be getting it. Any word on pricing?
