Hello Gamers.

I get a headache ONLY while gaming. What could be the reason?

I can work for hours in a row and nothing happens, but if I play any game for about 30min I get a headache. (Especially Crysis series)

Anyone has an idea as to why this happens?

Thanks in advance!

Some people feel sick in gaming because of motion blur.

Turn it off completely, and try again,

Do you get sick by playing other type of games???

Like League of legends??

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

Motion Blur or maybe change FOV

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.
It matters that you don't just give up.”

It could be that your field of view is low (FOV) which may cause dissyness or headaches, if you sit at a desk i'd recommend a minimum of 75+ fov. Try changing it and play for another 30 minutes, you can also turn of motion blur as Mihle gaming and mrchow said, it just makes it blurry when moving anyways

Thanks guys for replying!

I tried turning off motion blur, it didn't seem to help. :(

I don't see any option to change FOV, in Crysis, can you guys tell me how to change it?

and I get this problem in graphics intensive games ONLY. Maybe cause I get low FPS like <20, maybe that's the cause?

Thanks again.

Try turning the visuals way down until you get solid 60+ fps minimum. The low FPS is likely adding to the problem, with the jittery/inconsistent look.

As for changing FOV in Crysis, which crysis? #1? 2? 3?

For Crysis 1

Quote

cl_fov [value] - Determines your Field of View (FOV) in degrees. The higher the value, the more of the screen you can see, the lower the value, the more 'zoomed in' your view appears. The default of 60 degrees should suit most people, but some people - especially those using widescreen displays and/or custom resolutions - may wish to change this to better suit their display. The FPS impact will vary depending on the scene, since both increasing FOV can lower FPS due to more things on screen at one time, and decreasing FOV can zoom in more on complex scenes, thus lowering FPS as well.

You don't "need" a minimum of 60, but 20fps or lower is kinda bad, 45+ i'd say is the least i would game at (not including xbox/ps4 games) but 60 will sure feel better,

Of course you don't need 60 fps, but considering his headaches, as close to 60 fps as he can get is better. A "normal" (eg: one who doesn't get headaches while gaming) person can game at 20 fps without feeling sick or getting a headache, so obviously he might need to make more sacrifices in the visual quality to get the FPS he needs.

Don't ever play games at that frame rate.

No matter how desperate you are when it comes to gaming.....

I could not even play witcher 3 at 30fps.

FPS should not be a problem, if there are any problems at all, your best bet is to go to your GP and not the forums haha. We're still here to help though so i have some things to tamper with to try and get as comfortable as possible.

Do you have a gaming chair/neck rest? I have neck arthritis and not having a gaming chair/neck rest could cause it, and i have constant headaches (VERY bad for a 13 year old like me haha)

Is your back and spine area supported

are you using a spinning chair and are you abusing that because it could obviously cause dizziness

are you taking breaks like none of us do, it may help to get up and move around every 15 minutes. Have a break and watch My Little Pony like i do.

And last, play with your settings as BirdyTheMighty has said, motion blur and FOV are sometimes the cause but you shouldn't have motion blur on a pc that runs 20fps in all honestly.

Yeah I get headache on Phones, tablets, laptops and desktops if i'm playing a game at 30fps. If it's anything less than 60fps then it's bothering me and probably giving me e headache after long exposure.

I'm getting 20FPS in low settings! AA off.

The FOV trick worked, but if I increase it, my frame rates only get worse.

Try playing games at a stable FPS, anything over 45 is fine

Also you should mind the gamma as well, some people can't get away with photosensitivity, which obviously results in headache

No I'm not spinning all the time, Yes I do take a break once every 45-60min, but the headache starts at 30 min.

Anyways thanks for your help!

Specs? Try and decrease the resolution to a point where it's 60fps.

A laptop is pretty much not sufficient at all for gaming with graphics intensive games. I believe I've found the culprit of this, you might be experiencing motion sickness.

Yeah don't overclock your laptop. It's just a recipe for disaster. Most laptops cannot handle high temps to begin with, so when you start overclocking and pushing the thermals, they're gonna be hot as an oven, and thermal throttling all over the place.
