what does (O.C) in memory actually mean?

The product page says it supports DDR4 memory overclocked to 3466MHz so you'll be fine.

Standard for the board would be 2133Mhz. If it doesn't detect RAM speed/bandwidth (or you don't enable XMP) it defaults to 2133. If you use 2400 and enable XMP (or input the values manually) you'll receive the full benefits of 2400Mhz.

The only difference between a "2400"mhz one is that the manufacturer overclocked that stick and found it to be stable. The RAM you buy is rated to be overclocked at 2400 MHz using whatever timings and voltage. This is because 1866 MHz and 2133 MHz are the only supported DDR4 RAM speeds. If you were getting a Broadwell-E chip, then 2400 MHz and 2133 MHz would be the supported RAM speeds, according to Intel ARK (though this is meaningless since the X99 platform supports overclocking anyway).

 

You're looking at a Z170 board, which supports overclocking and allows you to set it higher than 2133 MHz. However, unless you either use the XMP profile on the RAM or manually overclock the RAM yourself, it'll run at the stock 2133 MHz like any other board would.

So I simply set it to an XMP profile of 2400 mhz? Not too familiar with all these xmp things.

Yeah. Overclockable RAM will typically have an XMP profile, usually one, set by the manufacturer that you can use which will set everything for you (voltage, RAM speed, etc).

To add to the rest of this: JEDEC has technically listed DDR4 up to 4266mhz. So as it matures, we will see higher JEDEC standards, as we did with DDR3 (800, 1066, 1333, 1600,1866, 2133 etc) 

 

With DDR4, they have only officially standardized 1600 through 2400. More will be added as time goes on.

OC means you are on your own if you plan to go past the non-OC speeds... :( (it will probably work but no guarantee...)
