can i add something to my router and/or laptop to increase wifi connection?

If your router can use antennas you can add antennas (directional or omni directional) or you can get a repeater which could help if placed right... probably a couple other ways possible but that's what I got

im upstairs. router is right below me. the floor is about 30 cm thick.

Do your other devices also have it?

If they don't, its your laptop's wifi adapter that is bad. You can attach an external wifi dongle.

yes the signal strength is the issue. my phone is sayin that i have 2 bars of wifi but its much faster than on the laptop. also im right next to the laptop.
