M.2 compatible for GAMING? Recommended?

Balokun

I was going to buy myself a new Hard Drive for GAMING ONLY, which means I will only install GAMES on that HD.

Kingston 120GB SSDNow M.2 SATA G2

Is there any issue or smth I have to watch out for when buy an M.2?
Is it recommended / or NOT to use that for games?

Opinions and knowledge asked! :)

Thats not an proper m.2, its an SSD in m.2 format. You want the HyperX Predator PCIe SSD one. Also for games, so will I say 120GB is a bit small, unless you only have 2-3 games installed at the time.

I speak my mind, sorry if thats a problem.

the only issue to worry about is that it's a waste of money to use for games.

M.2 drives have higher bandwidth than Sata drives so some(If they have a protocol that is faster than SATA such as NVME) can take advantage of that and achieve much higher read and write speeds. Other than that you wouldn't notice any difference in games or any other application.

EDIT: made it easier to understand.

If they're using the SATA/AHCI protocol or whatever, the speed will be the same. If they're using PCIe/NVME, the speeds will be much higher.

M.2 is just a connector, has nothing to do with the speed of the drive. It's the protocol of the drive that does. SATA M.2 will not be any faster than a 2.5" SATA SSD.

That's why I said some. Sata drives can only operate at Sata speeds where m.2 drives can operate faster depending on the protocol. I'll edit my post to make that more clear.

After all , does it mean if I put only a few games on it, it will be worth the loading times nonetheless?
Cause that 120GB costs only 65€...
Sadly the nextt bigger one with 240 costs 3x the price! x_x
