you have to understand the R9 380 is quite mid-range now...it's not a very powerful graphics card and you'll have to tweak your settings...for GTA 5 reduce grass quality to high, use FXAA and do not use the ''advanced settings'' cause those will kill your performance and don't add much visualy.

Your limiting factor is the graphics card, not the CPU...overclocking it will not provide any additional performance in games.

i disagree...it depend on the game, many games do FXAA just right, and in GTA 5 i quite like it.

well it's based on sandy bridge architecture so it's a couple generations old but it's still fast enough...

You could try to go in the bios and change the multiplier to make it run at 4.0ghz without much effort though...since it's free and you have a good cooler...check some overclocking guides online it's very easy.

Also your graphics card is in the wrong slot i believe...you should check the user manual and see which slot they recommend to populate first.

your current cpu is still very good for gaming. lower settings in games, and set the gpu at the main pci-e slot(the top one) instead of the bottom one.

I disagree with your disagreement sir!

Also yes as it has been said its the gfx card not the cpu..unless its not working right which is unlikely.

the lower slots tend to have less bandwidth(4-8x) compared to the top slot, which usually runs at full 16x. could cause a minor reduction in performance.

for an upgrade? if you got some extra cash then sell it and get something like a used r9 290/x or r9 390.

Don't sell for a 290 or 390, you might as well wait a bit to save up some money and then sell the 380 to try and get a 1070 or not sell at all.

the gtx 780 and gtx 970 don't perform as well compared to their amd counterparts, with less vram. if you can find a 6gb gtx 780ti/afford a gtx 1060 then go for it, but otherwise amd would be a better choice.

Depends on the price and game, however.

open a window or something lol, or turn down the AC or something, i have all the radiators in my room turned off so i can OC my processor more even, but you dont need to go to that much of an extreme, also swapping the GPU probably wont help much with this tbh, NVIDIA cards usiually produce less heat but it probably wont be noticeable tbh

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Because the lower runs run at slower speeds on most motherboards.

If you want better performance upgrade your gpu, how much money do you have(including the money you would get for selling your 380) to buy a new gpu?

The 3820 is more then capable for todays AAA games.

Its just your Graphics card that could need a upgrade.

Also next time it might make more sense to install the card in the top pci-e slot.
