As the title says, how many cores/threads will i need to record and also what Ghz

What would i need to be able to play games with barely any perforance drop while recording.

If you want to stream with the same hardware you are recording with, I recommend no less than the i7-4790k (and thus it's skylake equivalent the i7-6700k).

 

You could do the locked versions of those chips (or any x99 cpu), but I don't recommend i5's for that purpose.

It also depends on the resolution and quality. And if your video card supports on-GPU recording (like NVIDIA's ShadowPlay).

 

But you could get away with a high-end i5 as long as the game isn't too CPU intensive.

I would recommend getting an i7 processor that is relatively new (4790k or higher). If you want to save some cash, I'd go with the locked versions (I have a 4790) or maybe a Xeon.

 

If you want to record with barely any performance impacts, I'd get Shadowplay if you have/are getting an nVidia card.

You're going to want to be going i7 if you plan on streaming. Gonna be a pretty big drain on cpu resources to stream, record, have a tab of chrome open, and gaming on a 4 core w/o hyper threading.
