I need help planning my custom PC

Hello everyone!

For the past 4 months I have been working two jobs so that I can build a custom pc.

My budget is 700 dollars since this is going to be a linux machine and not for games.

The main OS will be Kali Linux since I am getting into Penetration Testing.

Any input is welcome,

Thanks!

ok well for those $700 i would go for a nice CPU something like a I7 6700K because what you are doing will have more advantage of a good CPU rather then a good GPU, so pair it with something like a RX 480 or even a GTX 970 now that they have dropped, for the other parts im not sure but if you can something like i suggested would do you fine

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

I would suggest getting a haswell core i7 4790K, as they seem to be much cheaper these days and build around that. It is not the latest but not a slouch either since you don't want to game anyways :). It would free up your budget and you could get something like a gtx 950/960 if you want to do some light gaming should the need arise. :)

proto-Powerhouse: i7 3930K, RIVE, 32GB 2133 DDR3, GTX 980ti SLI, 850 EVO 1tb boot, barracuda 4 tb storage, HX850i  ded RIP

Work in progress: Powerzen: R7 1700, X370 Taichi, 32GB, gtx 1050ti (temporary), 850 evo 1tb, Hx 850i

If you have money for an SSD for all of the storage you would need go for an SSD if not then do both.
