Feature Suggestion: Promote Unanswered Threads

So I've had my fair share of making topics (about various things) and seeing instant response (e.g. people engaging with the post and replying) BUT I've also recently noticed a recent "problem".

 

Many threads (recently anyway) go unanswered or are answered after an extremely long period of time.

 

And So I've thought of a cool idea/way to solve this.

 

@colonel_mortis Would it be possible to add a system to promote unanswered threads and encourage users to answer unanswered threads?

 

My idea would be to have a little banner at the top or bottom of the screen while browsing LTT. This banner would show an unanswered thread and could give the user the option to dismiss it in the form of "I don't know the answer" or allow the user to respond immediately by clicking on an option "I know the answer" or "Let me Respond".

 

this would really make a lot of people happy And i'd love it if this could be implemented. I know this would require a lot of effort but I think it can be done.

As discussed later on, this would only apply to tech threads which are looking for answers.

 

The best way to determine whether or not the thread has been answered is to look for either a "Best Answer" assigned by the OP OR for it to promote it until there are 10 or so replies to it.

NO, i use recently posted a lot. That is why everyone gets answers quickly because it is quicker to access.

Im not derailing the thread, I was saying getting rid of the "recent posts" was not  a solution to this problem

 

This is clearly feedback directly relating to the discussion inside the thread

props to AluminumTech for starting this and you're right..a lot of threads go unanswered (especially by those with fewer content count)

 

I like BingoFishy's design but I think we should keep the third option of "I don't know" if we can't answer or don't know anyone who can

Its also why some threads remain unanswered so long or OP feels the need to repost as they don't get answers as fast as others. Recently relies much on those who can answer being online and watching at the same time question is posted. And since I've seen quite few who say to only browse it (and some who dislike posting because someone beat them to it), this feels like promoting that kind of forum use.

Yeah I do mean situations where there is no best answer and/or there are very few answers.

 

It could be implemented so that if a best answer is selected it won't show that or if there are above 10 replies to the topic then it will stop promoting it.

We could have a thread dedicated to unanswered questions in which posts not replied to within 2 days will automatically transfer to. That banner thing seems annoying...

But you could easily dismiss it and it wouldn't be so big that it would obstruct your view.

 

It would be just like 100-300 pixels in height and 500-700 pixels in width.

that would defeat the whole purpose. if we had a separate thread for unanswered questions they would just go ignored. no one would care because its not like "oh I think I'll just check out the unanswered questions thread today.."

It might be a bit annoying for people who are using Google smaller mobile phones. The banner might be too small to see or the close button might be too small to press and you might hit another button by accident...
